I've been (unnoticeably) absent from the forums for the past few months due to work commitments (ps PNG sucks the big one) and had a heap of time off in lieu so decided to tour Germany and France for a month.
I have about 3000 photos of all the places but I'll stick to just the motoring stuff for this thread. I also haven't got an artistic bone in my body so the photography isn't that great, but the locations are.
Germany, Nurburgring:
And before anyone asks, yes, I drove it. Hired a Renault Clio Cup through RSRNurburg which believe me for the first time on that track (despite 11ty laps on GT5) is quick enough to poo yourself.
On my second lap I came through Fuchsröhre almost at the top of 5th (est. 180km/h), hit a bump on the inside of the left kink just before the run up the hill (those familiar with GT5 will know where I mean), tail unweighted, big flat slide at WOT up onto the right hand ripple strip. If the ripple strip wasn't cambered I would have been on the grass into the right hand armco, then head on into the fence at the end of the hill. I coasted for a bit to regain my composure after that
. Only wish I had in car footage - with my lack of talent would have been the best bit of car control I'll ever display.
Unfortunately that was my 2nd and last lap because there was a huge shunt and the track was closed. Perhaps they went off on whatever bodily fluid I previously left on the track.
Some of RSRNurburg's cars for hire sitting out in the lot in no particular order - Ferrari Italia, McLaren MP4-C12, Porsche GT3, Porsche GT2 RS, Porsche Carerra, Nissan GTR, BMW E46 M3, Lotus Elise, Lotus Exige, Renault Sport Meganne RS, Renault Sport Clio Cup (including a stripped out pure track car, full cage, 5pt harness, coil overs, massive brakes, semi slicks). Also some open seater Radical which I didn't recognise.
Germany, Black Forrest Road:
Think of an alpine GOR except no traffic, no police, no speed cameras.
Also visited numerous motoring museums etc. but way too many pics for here.
