The EA is running again!

Postby Sunboost » August 26th, 2007, 7:04 pm

Yay!

Got everything ticked off for the weekend except the Billet Quick shifter. Did the below

-Crow valve springs
-DEV4 Cam
-3.73:1 LSD
-New rear discs / pads
-New turbo gasket
-New exhaust gaskets
-Reverted to sik bro Gill Spec dose pipe
-Turbo blades
-Wash

Big thanks to all the boys (Jared, Max, Gill, Dan, Rips, Joe, Abu) for their help. Everything went very smoothly. Ran in to some dramas with the exhaust manifold but got it done in the end with Dan's motivational speeches (something like "nup, it's fkd take it to a fkn mechanic you tightarse") they were really something.

Probably get it out to Calder sometime soon or Heathcote. Gill's pushing for this weekend but the knt needs some more boost in it. It's dropped to 3-4PSI in 1st, 5ish in 2nd and then 8 in 3rd.

Skate and revs really nicely, I started 2 standy's in 2nd no dramas. It goes really really well when cold but as it heats up it feels a bit lethargic. I'm over it though! If I can run a 13 I'll be happy. Not much chop for this day and age but I cbf with another turbo conversion / build. It works and doses and I froff.

Nah not yet. Thought I'd let everything bed in a bit and listen for odd noises before I fuked with it more.

kaddis wrote:sounds awesome! pics on turbo blades!

Not as yet. Might have a shower and get some. The turbo blades aren't in the best condition :( The tyres are really good though.

stevo wrote:Thats alot of stuff you guys got done.

Yeah it takes us no time to do stuff now. Using air tools to do 90% of the work really does help. The air tools are the best tools I ever bought.

stevo wrote:Turbo blades... WTF is wrong with you?

I can't run the 18's without longer studs in the rear axles Stevo. I need to rip apart the old diff and put them on this one. It looks less sus on these wheels too so I reckon I'd be able to cane it around town and on cruises without unwanted attention.

None of my driveline components are original any more lol. The diff lasted a good 400,000km with bad noise for the last 50,000km. It's been a great diff :(

Sold your diff and bought the one off Dan.

No idea on specs of the diff. I'm a stupid knt and didn't ask any questions. It's got to originally be some sht spec EA1 diff. Doesn't even have welded nuts for the sway bar, Gilly had to sort some nuts out.

Boost issues need fine tuning. I want 8PSI in 1st, it's struggling to make half that even though that's what it's tuned for. Kind of disappointed (I knew I would be) but optimistic that the boost controller will help me get what I was looking for.

Yup, good to see it's finally running again hard work but worth it in the end!

We'll wind that boost controller right up, 8 pound in first, 10 in second, 13 in third and 15 in 4th or you could buy a EBC and have 15 pound in all gears wooo! Then you might be happy farken hard to please kent.

Nice work chief. Just one question and I'm not trying to cut you down or nothing... With how mint your car is, doesn't it make you wanna do a propa mint turbo install like with ECU and everything or you really cbf?

Looks like you had a much better weekend than I did. I just finished working on my car after some pretty serious problems. I hate cars, Oh god do I hate cars.

Get your car dynoed ASAP ftw.

And post or PM sick skid pics :)

Look at your car. Now back to mine. Now back to yours. Now back to mine. Sadly, yours isn't mine. But if you stopped buying dodgy cars and bought an ED, yours could be like mine. Look down. Back up. Where are you? ...You're on BoostedFalcon, reading the signature your signature could be like! Anything is possible when your car looks like my car... I'm on a computer.

When I got this turbo conversion I wasn't thinking of the future and didn't have the money to get good stuff. For the money I payed to get it all running and in and on 180kW (be comfortably over 200 with the new sht after I sort out the boost) it was pretty mint. It was just over $3k or something, which is what NA people were paying back then to get 140@the wheels. And I was only 19.

Now that everyone has done it and more and more people make it sound easy there's really no point in trying to prove anything. I'm too busy with work and other stuff so all I need is my setup to work and it's working so meh. I'll run a 13 now and I'll be happy. Things keep advancing so an upgrade now will be outdated in 3 years and you'll be asking the same question!

Put it simply, I'm over cars now.

Cheers Josh.

Anyone know somewhere I can get it dyno'd on a Saturday to do a power run and check AFR's for cheap?

I wanna get a power figure over 200kW then get back to tryin to pick up schlappers in the city on Saturday nights and more importantly MySpace.

Got the shifter in. Bit of a gimmick besides the straight gate spring loaded 3rd feature or whatever.

Hoping to go Calder this Friday night.

The PS belt flew off twice and broke, so I need a new one. New oil and filter, and change to stockies.

Hopefully I can get that done in the week and run a 13.

billet shifter, out of my old EF. It's not just a gimmick, sunny is picky. I had the T5 that was in his car now in my EA and it shifted like a bag of shit, my EF was the same, this shifter made it feel like a new gearbox.

I loved it anyway. :(

Sweet, i have a billet shifter in mine too and while the difference wasn't as noticable as i thought it was straight away but it does make shifts feel heaps crisper and positive and helps to no end when slamming 3rd.

Damn straight! its good fun, i tried to do that once with the standard shifter and inevitably all i got was stuck on the gate and alot of rev limiter

Yeah maybe it'll takea little while to notice the change. I tried to solid mount the stick in a rush but realised I'll need strong washers or something. Cbf so I left it. The bush is a little tired but not as bad as some I've seen, so it feels a little sloppy.

Beth, yeah I'll be taking it out a bit more now. Way nicer to drive. Just need to do the bar and finish the stereo then it's set.
