AFD Beach Theme CANCELLED.

Postby SnyperEB » January 31st, 2009, 9:17 pm

Due to many people not being interested in the beach theme it has been cancelled. Just having 3-4 that are in a theme is just not going to work. Tech sheets and display boards are still available from phatel otherwise you can make your own. I know a few people have the ones that were made by Pete for Sandown last year and a definately a very professional look for the club. Talk to Pete really niely he may even make you one if he has time.

Sorry if you have already packed your beach stuff.

Who said they aint showing interest in the beach theme? All we had to do is take stuff from home, is it that hard?

Not fair that Petes doing the work and your making the decisions? No offence....

i think what shaun's getting at is, if its done 1/2 arsed, it'll look pretty average.

i don't plan on sticking anything near my car that is beach related, shaun's said he won't.

if *everyone* was putting in 100% effort for a themed display then yes, you could probably pull it off, but when there is only a hand full of cars looking to do it then it'll look messy.
From the first time it was mentioned there was sceptisism about how good it'd look.

IMO: stuff near the cars will look a bit average, but i think you could 'theme' up the area where we are all sitting.

Yeah I'd be down for it, but it will look a bit tacky "as though we are gonna head off to the beach after AFD", maybe a truck load of sand, coconut tree's, hire some fit women in bikinis...then it might look the part :D ...

ABS = spongy brakes, but you'll slow to about 60

non-ABS = lock up at 100 & skid past the roo doing about 95. But you'll look sick doing it

I know what you are getting at, just stuff round the group will look tacky. Shaun told me it was the people at the front of the display who didnt want to do it which is why it is cancelled? Didnt know a layout had been decided?

Would have been nice to make this decision earlier then two weeks before the event! Or even a vote etc rather then a decision based on two people. Kinda annoying when people like Pete who has been putting hours into this didnt even know until now and didnt have a say?

Ah well, its been done. See you there!

1/2 the cars doing it will look more tacky then doing it around the 'relaxation' area.
A layout hasn't been decided, i don't have any idea what shape/size our site will be, i have however decided on a few cars that would more then likely be at the front.
2 of which have decided to not participate in said theme.

with regards to a vote on if were were doing it or not, i didnt see a vote to say 'Yes lets do a beach theme' in the first place.
If you can drum up enough support to go ahead with it without it looking tacky, then by all means.
just be aware that not everyone is interested.
Last years theme although not as elaborate and not as much effort put in, worked simply because it was car related.
a beach theme isnt exactly car related so its hard to make it fit in around cars without it looking messy.

None of us are aware of the effort Pete has gone to.
all thats been mentioned in relation to the theme is to 'bring beach stuff' are we just going to throw it on the ground next to the car?
again, messy.

if you had/have a plan then please let us know what it is, i don't think a couple of pool noodles/blow up items next to PHATEL is going to have much of an effect.

I will give points if you can make an entry gate/archway out of pool noodles and/or waterslides.

What the, who said anything about that? I said I agree with the beach theme looking tacky. :|

As you know, Pete has been working on the Info sheets. He has put in ages to put them all into order, sort through pms etc which has taken quite some time. If anyone wants to offer to do it then I am sure he will gladly hand it over :D as he is so over them.

On another note, aside from info sheets and a layout, what else needs to be arranged for the day? Or should I post this in the AFD thread itself?

thank god no hoff, i didnt wanna see shaun in speedos again :o

i think the whole beach theme had been 2 sided right from the start. some were interested and some werent.
i think it would have worked out if every single person was prepared to put in the effort so the whole display would look beachy and not just some cars/parts of the display.
there has been no set plans for where cars will be placed but yes john has possible ideas but cant confirm and plans until he has the layout of the display.

pete is doing a good thing by offering to do the info sheets and i know alot of people would be grateful for that. maybe next time for a display the club does some one else does the display sheets so its not just one person offering to do it all the time?

i think that the display boards should still be used and those who dont have them could put there info sheets under there wiper or something. i think that looked good at sandown so i cant see why everyone just doesnt do that for afd.

lets all just look forward to the event and get ready to start cleaning ya cars, haha have fun cleaning ya cars :P
but no doubt ill be cleaning john's car for him and try and make it all pretty :P

In regards to the tackiness. It wasnt gona be just shit thrown everywhere, looked alright in my head anyway.
I agree with some people not giving a fark or not being bothered to chip in, hell, some people cant even spare 5 mins to type out an info sheet on there own car ffs!!
John, we actually do have a water slide here too, although without the water it may burn :P
Everyone I've spoken to about it seemed to wana do it, even if its a boot with an esky and towels (Kester :P) that looks like its ready for the beach. Or beach umbrellas over the cars with doors open.

Spose the decision isnt mine though, although no one disagreed when I said it a month or 2 ago.

BTW, those people left, you included Shaun :P get your info sheets to me ASAP!!

It wasn't that I wasn't interested, just i am not an 'outdoors' person therefore don't have beach stuff.
Not sure if you were implying that it was me who was not interested. That is not the case.
I suppose I could find some speedos, but i think it's best that I don't !! :o

all i'm saying is that you seem to be making a big deal out of is being cancelled, because of all the planning thats gone in to it.
how are any of us meant to know what planning has gone into it when barely anything has been mentioned.

i'm fully aware of Pete doing the info sheets, being one of the people who has done them in the past i greatly appreciate his help with that aspect, however i don't see how that relates to the beach theme being cancelled? unless the sheets themselves are 'beach themed' in which case i don't see why that has to change.

the only other stuff i can think of that needs to be arranged is supplies for the day :P
shade mainly lol.

i think the main issue is, most people simply won't get it.
an eski and towell in the boot to most people will just look like our supplies for the day.
how many people have beach umbrellas? and how many of them would risk them hanging over their car.

i'm not shit canning the idea, i've said it a number of times that if it was a joint effort then it'd work.
but we simply don't have the support to make it what it should be.
