A FATHER whose car exploded, killing his eight-year-old son and severely burning his three other children, is suing mechanics who installed and checked its faulty LPG system.
[--snip--]
Mr Clay, a tyre fitter, bought the car from his former boss at the Bridgestone Tyre Centre in Doveton, mechanic David Beaney. He said he insisted on the LPG system being checked because Mr Beaney had installed it himself, so Mr Beaney arranged a mobile gas cylinder tester, Gary Martin, to come to their workplace.
Mr Clay is also suing a third man, Stephen Young, who gave the Ford Falcon a roadworthy certificate.
Terence Casey, QC, for Mr Clay, said the backyard LPG conversion was described as "dreadful" by a forensic scientist, who found an incorrectly fitted fuel line had cracked and released gas into the car.
Look out for dodgy installs!
