Need new headlight globes. whats what?

Postby Phillis » April 14th, 2009, 8:53 pm

so my passenger side headlight is out. i have the parker and the high beam, but no standard headlight.

Ive seen stuff on ebay, H1's, H3's, H4's. A standard headlight is a H3, yes? Whats a H1 and H4?

Ideally id really like white/blue light, like the ones in the new beamers that blind you when they are behind you :P what are the specs for those ones, and are there any difference between the philips ones at autobard and the ones on ebay.

discuss :D

Being an XR, if that really blind light is your kinda thing, you could go some HID's. If you go for something around the 4000-6000k mark, you should get the blue light you're after. Any more, and they begin to go purple :o

your low beam is a H1 globe....
high beam is H3
H4 is a dual filament globe, which has high/low in it...... it wont fit in the XR headlights so you dont need to be concerned about it..

the blue/white you're talking about is HID - High intensity discharge or also known as Xenon(due to the gas used in the light capsule)
being an XR, it has projector headlamps, so you'd be able to use HID's without blinding kents

Keep in mind that HID kits have a few compromises. You can no longer flash the lights as this damages them. And you have to accept the compromise that the stock projector is designed for a completely different light source. Also, if you are after optimum brightness, 4300k is the only choice.

You might be better off getting stock bulbs and looking to save for a proper set-up like Wayne's in your own time. I once did a half-way job with an aftermarket kit but got over all the compromises pretty quickly...

im wayne :), and he's talking about my headlights which have a custom HID retrofit from a honda accord euro.....

its a misconception that you cant flash your high beam with HID's as the turning on/turning off will damage them.
if you sat there flashing them on and of 100 times it might damage them, but its unlikely you will sit there doing so...

nah don't bother with Autobarn or those retail stores, you'll pay around $400 +, If you want a quick fix go to a well response ebay $100 - $200.

ABS = spongy brakes, but you'll slow to about 60

non-ABS = lock up at 100 & skid past the roo doing about 95. But you'll look sick doing it
