I may be sheltered, but most disputes I've solved person to person, rational thinking works well, and if it doesn't then threats usually do haha. Only ever called the cops once...
Ran into a guy obviously tripping hardcore in Hawthorn. He was largish (around 6'4", 110kg), and was insanely aggressive and tense. He was alone and yet tried to pick a fight with myself and 4 of my friends (at 5pm in daylight!), even though we are not
that small either. We are pretty laid back/passive, and managed to slip away from the situation very quietly explaining we didn't want to fight etc etc (even though it would have ended in our favour). We called the cops straight away and said this dude was really aggressive and said someone was gonna get hurt by him for sure. They took half an hour to come (the guy had long marched off screaming at people on his way) and apparently someone was stabbed on a tram 500m up the road that night, which is very rare in that area. Felt guilty for not laying the guy out cold when we had the chance but we weren't to know
