Lokka + 3.9s or 3.7s??

Postby Fairmont888 » July 2nd, 2009, 6:40 pm

ok so the plan is to put a lokka and some new diff gears in the sprint, i'm unsure which diff gears to go with out of 3.7 or 3.9 so i'm after some opinions. Not considering 4.11s

Where will you most likely be driving it? Id say 3.7's personally.

car is auto, and driving is probably 60 - 70% city

why arent you considering 4.11's?

ive had 3.7's and 4.11's in my car behind the auto, and the 4.11's are a shitload better to drive with

4.11's behind a manual is a pig, but behind the earlier auto's tall ratios its still not enough !!

in city 4.11's would be best.
but will run out of legs at high speeds

3.9's would be good for both. city and highway

i ve got 4:11's in my vt ls1, but in all honesty man when you have to do a trip over the otherside of the city or something they suck ass.

im going 3:9's in the ghia, still take off well but have a bit of legs for teh open road trips every now then to the other side of the city

im not understanding the running out of legs comments on the 4.11's

sure, the limiter kicks in earlier at 160kph approx, but for a daily i see no need to go faster.

with 4"11's they rev pretty high out on the freeway, they dont run out of legs as such, but its bloody anoying sitting on a freeway with a v8 and pipes sitting on very high revs at 100kms for half hour driving, gets really annoying

3"9s are the best imo

Leave the ratio, put a lokka in, get turbos.

WIll save you building a diff, getting a stall, better manifolds, heads, throttle body blah blah blah that you'd have to replace to manage a massive 170rwkw/13.9 ET.

yeh its not so much the limiter kicking in thats the problem with 4.11's(other then at the drags)
its the high revs on highways. lack of get up and go once your up fast already. and the vibrations from tail shaft (in my xr8 was at 120-130)

3.7's behind an Auto 5.slo isn't real inspiring. I went from 3.23 to 3.7 and didn't pick it up as much as i would have liked.
Then again if you eventually do a manual conversion 3.7's will still be compatible.
