Another BOOSTED FALCON to the Aussie market, 4cyl ECOBOOST!

http://www.themotorreport.com.au/38133/ ... territory/

Amongst a few big announcements today, including no Focus to be produced in Australia, Diesel Territory confirmed and a brand new (finally hi-tech) LPG system!

"FORD AUSTRALIA HAS CONFIRMED that it will not pursue its plans to produce the Focus locally, instead opting to invest $230 million ($42 million of which has been contributed by the Federal Government’s Green Car Innovation Fund) in the development of three new fuel-efficient powertrains for the volume-selling Falcon and Territory.
Headlining the new range will be Ford’s 2.0 litre turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, which is slated to be introduced into the Falcon line-up in 2011 and will be the first RWD application of the high-efficiency powerplant.
A high compression ratio and direct-injection help reduce turbo lag, and Ford says the high-tech four-cylinder will deliver more low-down torque than a 3.0 litre V6 of comparable output.
The EcoBoost engine will also weigh substantially less than the 4.0 litre inline six that presently powers the Falcon, further improving economy.
Fuel consumption is expected to be cut by 20 percent over the current six-cylinder engine, while carbon dioxide emissions will drop by 15 percent.
The 2.0 litre four-cylinder will be offered alongside the Euro IV-compliant inline six that is due to be introduced mid next year, however there are presently no plans to assemble the EcoBoost engine locally.
There are also no plans to offer the EcoBoost engine in the Territory.

Ford has just confirmed that it will bring an EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine to marker starting next year. The new engine will be a 2.0-liter gasoline four-cylinder and use a turbocharger to deliver at least 230hp and 240 ft-lbs of torque.
Much in the way that the 260hp EcoBoost V6 delivers V8 power with V6 duel-economy, the EcoBoost four is designed to deliver V6 power with four-cylinder fuel-economy. Ford says it should deliver a 10 to 20 percent fuel-economy improvement over a similarly powerful V6 engine.
Ford will no doubt begin to use this new EcoBoost four as a replacement for many of its V6 engines in models like the Fusion, Edge and Escape/Mariner. There is the possibility that we could see the turbo-four replace the base V6 powerplants in models like the Mustang and F-150. Some rumors, however, have indicated that the Mustang could use the 3.7-liter V6 from the Lincoln MKS.

So we will have a 2L Falcon, lets hope it has enough power to pull a caravan and still overtake trucks comfortably

I think the idea with an 'ecoboost' falcon is:
Great economy
Can still carry 5 adults if needed
Fleet buyers/rep cars

Not something to tow the van around australia or hit up a track day..

However if this new LPG system is all its talked up to be, will be the pick for fleet and familys!

Im Going to buy a new 4 banger falcon, put 5 tv's in it (one in the engine bay) airbrush it, some 22" chromies and a custom jetspeed bodykit and get onto the cover of Hot4's mag.

if Ford Aus had half a brain, they would fit it with a DSG gearbox...... dad has a VW turbo with DSG, and it drives very nice. Basically a manual transmission controlled electronically

feels weird driving an auto and feeling the clutch pop in between gears :)

Falcon drivers don't wanna outlay $$$$$$$ for that technology.

Its already working in VW and has been for years....shouldnt be to hard to adapt it to a different diesel engine?

I think 2l is a little small for a falcon? i mean a 2.7/8? hilux is pathetic so hopefully BMW helped ford design their 2L to make it get up and go.

A 2.0L version was unveiled in the 2008 Ford Explorer America Concept.[1] The engine was rated 275 hp (205 kW) and 280 lb·ft (380 N·m). Ford announced a new 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine will go on sale in the 2010 calendar year. It is the first EcoBoost engine to include Twin-Independent Variable Cam Timing (Ti-VCT). This new four-cylinder 2.0L version EcoBoost engine will deliver 10 to 20 percent better fuel economy than larger displacement V-6s, all without compromising performance.

if they cut the falcon down to a medium sized car it should go ok, but in an FG would be horrible. I think they are already using the DSG gearbox in the euro focus?

my dad's VW jetta turbo is a 2L petrol, 1430kg weight, 147kw with DSG gearbox and goes alright for the small power output

i drive a 2.7 hilux at work and i must say it goes quite well.......will easily bake the tyres if you give it alittle clutch dump
they have 112kw

however, comparing one of those to the ecoboost engine is a bit wrong, its turbocharged for a start, and touted to have around 170 - 205kw...... it shouldnt go too bad
anyway, it will be an economy car, not a performer.... there will be other engines available for that

A 200kw diesel engine with a 6 speed auto would bloody move. Probably even have comparative acceleration to a stock 4.0, given near identical power/torque outputs.

Regardless of that. there would be turbo 6s for people who want to go proper fast, this engine would be an attempt to lure buyers back to the falcon who may have otherwise chosen a smaller car.
