ACT P Plater laws

Postby Jack-5150 » October 10th, 2009, 2:30 pm

Hi guys,

Having only 3 weeks left until my last HSC exam, I'm now looking at moving out...going to the ACT. There's several career opportunities that I just couldn't ignore, so I'm moving down there as soon as I'm done with exams:-)
I was delighted when I heard about the P plate laws, the fact that I can drive anything and not have to display P plates really excited me.
I'm definetely going to purchase a V8, most probably a BA falcon of some sort...just have to sell a few guitars, and the old ED first:-P

Now here's my question to you guys...
I'll be doing a lot of interstate driving as I'll spending weekends with my Dad who lives in Sydney.
Will I get hassled by the local cops for driving what they consider "restricted", or will I be fine as I'll carry an ACT license?
I understand that I have to abide by the laws of whichever state I'm in, but if the vehicle is registered in my name and I carry a licence which permits me to drive that particular vehicle, there isn't much I can do.
I'd like to hear what you guys have to say.

you still have to display p-plates in the ACT but you can get out of displaying them after 6 months if you do a p off course but you are still technically a p-plater. Not trying to put you down but canberra is one of the boringst places ever personally cant wait to get out of here!! But i think you'll find if you get pulled over they'll let you off. I have a few mates who have been pulled over over the alcohol limit in N.S.W which is 0.00 but they where under the A.C.T limit of 0.02 and they where let off.

Yeah, forgot about the "p off" course. Even if things don't work out, I'll just get my mail redirected and move back home.
At least I'll still have the ACT license:-P
