My Car + Tree = Write-Off???

Postby EDFalcon » October 27th, 2007, 6:02 pm

Well everyone here's the story:

Last saturday coming down Mt Dandy i was just cruising going round a right bend when a car is coming towards me really wide and mostly in my lane. i swerved left and hit the dirt. back started sliding and back left corner hit a tree. i've attached a small pic of the damage. back left wheel was wrecked hence the stocky.
I find out monday if its a write-off. tree bent in the floor of the boot so thats the expensive bit.

Anyway i'm looking at an ED XR8 5spd atm just in case. i dont know much about the 8's and was wondering what i should look out for?? i'm sure there are plenty of people on here who know a lot more than i do.

Cheers,
Steve

spewin bout the damage, did u get the details of the other car? or r u just goin to fork out n get it fixed yourself?
the 8's are very reliable, only thing is that lack power in standard form, so a few mods dont hurt, and also ive experienced that the power steering pumps are a bit on the dodgy side so look out for that aswell.

yeah the other guy just kept going and i have no idea even what kind of car it was. all i saw were headlights.

i'm in two minds on whether to buy back the wreck and fork out the money to fix it myself or to get a new car. of course its all up to whether or not its a write off.

if its gone to the car gods and i dont decide to buy the wreck i'll let everone here know coz the engine went pretty well with the crow cam, and the new springs and such. someone might want the wreck.

Just by looking at the picture of the damage Id be very surprised if they dont write it off

Definetly let us know if your going to buy it back and sell/wreck it a few more details on the car would be good

the other thing is dont let the insurance company push you around on price, do a search on carsales/carpoint/trading post for vehicles of similar condition/ mods like yours and print them out as proof of what it is going to cost to replace. For example lets say $4000 the insurance company will offer you less, say $3000 what they offer you is a starting point that you can haggle up from....

Need anymore advice on dealing with insurance drop me a PM

Cheers Kev

hey mate, sorry to hear about your car, back in feb i had the same sorta accident, well...car meets traffic light + the start of a barrier on the S-bend on pricness hwy.....looked exaclty like yours, a little more pushed in though and on the other side, and sad to say for the amount of money these cars are worth..its a write off and not worth fixing, as your chasis would be pretty bent...
For the amnount of money you'd spend fixing it, i'd save up n get another ed..preferably xr ;), and use some of the stuff on ur old car for parts n sell some stuff to get a bit of money,
hope all turns out well

Speed determines how fast you hit the Traffic Light....Power determines how far you take it with you.

ABS = spongy brakes, but you'll slow to about 60

non-ABS = lock up at 100 & skid past the roo doing about 95. But you'll look sick doing it
