P1 towing question..

Postby Jake » January 7th, 2010, 5:17 pm

I have been asked to tow a mates car tomorrow, and I'm a P1 driver. I haven't said yes or no yet because I'm unsure of the rules.
The rta website says;

P1 drivers must;
Observe towing restrictions (you are only allowed to tow light trailers of up to 250 kilograms unloaded weight).

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/licensing/get ... cence.html

Does this mean that if the car float weights 200kg's unloaded, that I can load the tailor up as much as I want... about 1200kg's with a car? because the tailors unloaded weight is 200 which is less than what the rule says..?

It's not clear to me.

I'd doubt the car trailer weighs under $250kg, they're usually bloody heavy.

I'd guess that the term 'light trailer' means a box trailer of some sort, which you would use to take stuff to the dump or move a fridge etc.

Look at your car. Now back to mine. Now back to yours. Now back to mine. Sadly, yours isn't mine. But if you stopped buying dodgy cars and bought an ED, yours could be like mine. Look down. Back up. Where are you? ...You're on BoostedFalcon, reading the signature your signature could be like! Anything is possible when your car looks like my car... I'm on a computer.

same thoughts on the weight of a car trailer..

but just a thought it may be worth a drive down to the local copstation and talking to one of the tmu officers. they would surely be able to answer the question for you.

It says 250kg unloaded weight, meaning the weight of the trailer only. If the trailer weighs 200kg (must be a pretty damn thin and average trailer.....), you can load it up as much as you'd like and is legal for the trailer.
