Possible fuel pump problem?

Postby intensemdg » March 11th, 2010, 4:55 pm

was driving home on freeway when car started to shake and miss fire (seemed like dirty fuel or a vac leak) then the car died!...them i manage to get the car started it went up about 30metres and died again with rapid shacking and idle pingin real high and low not reponsive to the accelorator. Had to get the car towed home and now it wont start at all. anyone with any ideas or methods to diagnosis the problem on my car, is it a common problem..links to exisiting threads of problem solving or repairs carried out with similar issues. thnks guyz

easy way to test faulty fuel pump is to wack the base of your boot (where the fuel pump sits), if it starts then its faulty. That wont work if the fuel pump is completley dead though (wont prime at all when you switch ignition on).... For the relay, theres gota be someone you know has an eseries, just swap over the relays from there one to see if works in yours.

ok now im stumped tock te car for a drive today
its got half a tank of fuel when i left
put it in first, accelerated slowly and i can rev it out all the way, then stoped and took off and got to 4000rpm and stept on it ( flat stick) and it chokes up and if i keep my foot down back fires, stalls, and splutters also another thing i noticed is that if i drive normaly and throw the car around a bit it will do it worse and to the point where it would turn off under light acceleration, could it be a pick up for fuel>?

after a 5 min drive ive gone from 1/2 tank to under a 1/4 tank
after speaking to a few people, thy have advised me to try a petrol treatment, as well and injector cleaner.
or could be the maf where a hose has a crack in it and under hard acceleratration the hose looses manifold pressure?

Doubt it:S sounds like you have a shortage of fuel like me, depending on your driver history, what petrol do you fill up with? last time you changed ur fuel pump and or fuel filter? if you run the tank constently empty
