The answer to your first quest is NO. You dont need to be a part of RMIT to join, they only require half the club to be actual students. They receive funding from RMIT to organise and subsidise events.
There is an event Saturday 3rd of July at Winton race track. You get a full day of racing for only $30. All the details are listed at the link below.

im not sure what it normally costs for a full day of racing but this seems cheap.
You dont need a racing license, you dont even need a normal license but your car must be roadworthy. Im not sure how much they will check as nobody would be stupid enough to think you could organise a motor sport event for uni students and expect them to all have roadworthy cars. Anything they can afford is usually slow i.e stock pre turbo falcons. So what would be the point of going racing in a stock eb or the like

ANYWAY..... Thought some people may want to sign up, I think the club is relatively new and im guessing that there will be other events that will be subsidised as well.
To sign up as a member of the club, please email rmit.motorsport@yahoo.com.au your:
- Full Name
- Student Number
Thats a copy and paste from their facebook page, most of you guys wont have a student number obviously so just email them saying you want to join. I dont know how many non-students they have at the moment but they should have plenty of spots to get some serious falcons in there
