I'm pretty sure it's quite easy to break into early e-series and early v-series cars. According to some lady i spoke to at NRMA, late 80's - mid 90's falcons and commodores are the most commonly stolen cars. My mate's aunties VL could be started with almost any key.

Damo, I rang my housemate when I was standing next to my car in the garage. He was in the house about 30 metres away...
My remote doesn't work unless I am in a 1 metre radius of the car, so for it to work (unlock and boot button) 30 metres away speaks wonders to me!
It actually DID work! Try it yourself...

It didn't work for me, and my test was more realistic cause I was 70km away from the car when I tried.
