For bodywork cheap and nasty welders will suffice. You wont really be running any beads of weld. If you're welding outside then a gasless would be the go. People say gasless is shit but that's garbage, sure it's harder to make a nice, strong weld but still very possible. Your main aim with panel welding is avoiding distortion and it doesn't take much to burn through a car panel. If you're going for a gas mig then get something that can post flow the gas or chances are you'll get porosity or even worse, the tack bubbles up and grows an appendage or something.
