Last time I checked AU was the designation for all Falcon variants, standard and LWB.

Unless that's a pic of something else. Damn work filters.

Just because it's the best posible combination of an AU interior, it's still an AU! Testament to how awesome the interior is on these! But as mentioned, forever marred by the disappointing series 1.

this reminds me of when homer designed and built a car at his brothers factory. looks like it came from outa fucking space. it still amaze's me how ford, with so many design people, working on a new car for years came up with that. there must of been a point when they thought "what have we done, surely it's not to late to change things".

i've actually thought holden must of got some people in there some how, just to **** it up.

I dont think the AU is all Ford Australias fault, Ford have these global design themes and I guess Ford AU are required to adopt some of the styling queues that are given to them by Ford US.

If you look at an AU and a Taurus you can see some of the same styling.

Even now if you look at the new Territory front and some of the current US Ford models they have similarities.

yeah thats true ^ ...when you look at an au like the one above, every part that people find ugly, exaggerate that and you have a ford taurus...my nan has one...definately looks like an aborted fetus with wheels.

That's a good point. If we didn't get the AU we wouldn't have anything after it. The baby no one wanted but was vital to the future lol. The dude that penned the AU also did the grill for the EL GT. I bet if you didn't know that it's still not much of a surprise.

I can't seem to find a pic online, but its in the book "true blue" (i think thats what its called)...but god damm it was ugly, i think FoA did a good job considering the parimiters layed down by head office. I recall even the wheel arches had to clear snow chains (WTF), hence the huge openings compared to the BA or FG, and for a bit of extra triva, the S3 T-series broke this ruling with its skirt extentions...

When you compare the VT to the AU, the latter still appears fresher (but the VT was based on the Opel Omega B, released '94... )

Consider this, Ford US have continually for the past 30 years tried to tell us how to build the falcon, and base it on a avaiable platform (Mazda 626/telstar, taurus, granda etc) but in the end FoA stick to there guns, they could have just based it on something else like GM-H has done for the whole of the commodore's life (bar VE).
