Post pics of your engine/trans failures and probable causes

Postby turbo_will » January 12th, 2012, 6:20 pm

Ill start with this...

Specs: Eb fairmont, 6into1 turbo manifold, 70mm turbo, bbm intake, 60lb injectors, el ecu with j3, 1x 044 pump inline being fed from stock intank pump, stock btr auto etc.

This is piston no.1 removed from the stock eb bottom end.

Image

Suspected cause is a massive leanout due to dropping fuel pressure under boost. Fuel pressure dropped to 40psi under 20psi boost. I have another stock el motor just about ready to go in. Planned upgrades to prevent this happening again are surge tank with 2x 044s, plenum for better air distribution and care with tuning.

To be honest this motor would still be running if we stopped as soon as it was obvious it was too lean but it had been oiling up no5 plug for ages and i suspected a busted ring land. On inspection no5 piston was fine must have just been the old 236000km rings giving up slowly.

T5 third

Driven by a mildly modded 4L, after smashing into third doing fucknose how many laps of Willowbank.

Not enough power for the cushioned button to slip; the Kaaz wasn't going to break; and not enough power shear the input shaft or break unis or axles or anything. Just almost flat-shifting at 5-8 into third repeatedly with a harsh clutch not made for a standard box.

Lesson: Buttons are shit. Organic until you can afford a twin-plate.

Too much timing for the boost, compression and rods I was running.

I see the piston from the oil pump pressure relief over to the right.
So what broke, cyls 1 and 2, or 2 and 3?
If you follow this advice and 'the dyno' can't 'give you what you wanted'. Remember one thing, I don't give a shit what 'the dyno' says.

yeah i was wondering wtf that was
piston/rod number 1 and 2 let go and bounced around in the sump for all of 2 seconds and this was the outcome lol
the oil pump and pickup obviously died also.
