car: E5 mazda engine with carby (1.5)
got fully rebuilt along with a fully reconditioned carby. now when i got it i drove it 4 hours home after it had been sitting in the paddock for a month or so and it ran fine, but with a full tank i had problems starting it hot, so i started playing with it yesterday, got it to idle from 1500 back to the 900 factory setting, played with the fuel/ air mixture to no difference, dropped the timing from roughly 16 deg to 10 deg btdc(factory setting) and it ran like shit and couldnt drive it, smelt really rich, so this morning i got back out there, adjusted the fuel level in the carb because it was over the half way marking where its ment to be on the site glass, and it went a little better with the timing at 16 deg again, so i readjusted the air fuel mixture, to no difference, and readjusted the idle back to 900rpm
checked the timing and dropped it back to 11 deg at 900 and still drove like shit!! it backfires going down hill in the high rpm with the timing set at 10 deg but not at approx 16 deg,
now im thinking the fuel jets were drilled out because the guy who owned it before me and spent all this money on it wasnt very mechanically minded and payed everyone to do this work, he was going to drop a cam in, and make it a higher comp engine, but im not sure what exactly of his stupid ideas weather he did them or not, now im thinking this timing issue could be it needs to be advanced so that the extra fuel its getting is getting burnt fully, but when i put it bak to 10 deg, its floody and still burning fuel when the exhaust ports open?
any help would be very greatly appreciated, also wondering if i can buy new fuel jets to screw straight in?
