Worked Ed 6 Or Stock 2004 Xr6t???.

Postby mattymc » June 29th, 2012, 7:53 am

Hey Guys,

I don't post a lot on the site but find it a great read. I'm sort of in two minds as of what to do car wise. At the moment I have an 1994 Ed futura with a lot of work done to it. The motor is at the engine builders as we speak getting rebuilt.

Now here comes the my confusion.

I have been offered a mint condition Ba Xr6t auto with 220km on the clock. It have been a country car so all kms have been done on the highway. Always serviced at the same dealer with log books too. I'm still waiting for all of the details. Price is around the $11,000 mark.

I have put a ton of work into the Ed and would be a shame to wreck it but I'm not really sure if there is much of a market for it.

I have been wanting an xr6 turbo for some time as I'm after a bit more comfort and safety features. Also a bit more grunt without attracting the eyes of the police.

So I guess I'm just after some opinions and what people think.

It does come down to money in the end unfortunately. Wish that I could keep the Ed but I already have too many cars. Will see what happens I guess. I will most likely get the motor back in and running and see if I get any interest selling as a whole. If not I will have to wreck it.

I'm leaning towards the xr6t simply because in stock form they go quite well. The Ed before I rebuilt the motor made 158rwkw and looking for more once the engine is back. Don't think that it will be anywhere near as drivable as the xr6t either.

Do whatever you have a preference for: comfort and easy power; or something slightly easier to work on that you don't see everywhere you go.

You couldn't get an easier car to work on than BA/BF!

Agreed. I repaired a BF for my father and it was so easy to work on. Working with door looms especially as you can unclip them very easily to remove and replace doors.

The easy power and comfort of the xr6t is looking very good right now. Will look into finances as that will decide what happens.

b series are very simple cars and easy as shit to work on, id rather work on one any day of the week compared to an e series shitbox.

at the end of the day 11k for a 220,000km ba turbo? bit pricey, id just keep the ed for that money, i wouldnt pay more than 8-9 for that car unless its super super mint and you can change the cluster to a lower k one lol

Totally agree with you on that one. If I cant get the xr6t for a good price I'm not going to bother. My Ed has only done 80k more and will be getting a new motor fitted very soon. Im still waiting to find out all of the info on the car. Will see what happens when I see it and how negotable they are price wise.

Owner was not willing to budge on price. Not going to bother. Will hold onto the Ed a bit longer. I'll save up for a 6 speed Bf or even an Fg as their are a few at really good prices.

Don't bother with BA 4 speed turbo, for street driving to 100 your ED will be quicker and just as fun if its manual, however obviously if you start modding the Turbo then it becomes a different story. BF 6 speed/Fg is the way.

Ended up sticking with the Ed. Just running in a new motor and will be getting a final tune soon. It is manual with 3:45:1 diff. It was fun to drive with the 158rwkw it had before rebuild. I hope it will do a bit better with the new cam and motor when fully tuned.
