I beleive the track service might have been slightly less grippy. in that same magazine and on that same day they tested a v12 merc that was only 2 seconds a lap faster. Thats still a big difference but not anywhere near as much as id expect a v12 to be.

Other tests (for the EB ) were 8.1 0-100 and 16.5 I think was the 0-400. Bare in mind to these tests were done on low octane 91ron fuel to.

On 98 and with more grip id wager the times alot different. Especially sinse stock EB futura's cut 0-100 in other tests in 9.2 seconds. vs the xr6 in this test cutting 9.4.

Funny how the ford six's were faster than the holden 8's back then

Reminds me of a few posts on here where someone said something about their XR-6 beat a VS SS and people gave them shit saying there was no way a 6 would beat an 8.

Yeah. Having a debate withsomeone at work atm trying to say commodore v6s always been faster then the ford inline six. But gotta get some print outs and his education shall begin. I have a couple more to scan when I get a chance.

I loved that article. Still have it around here somewhere.

The times are very bad, but comparable (ie there's practically nothing between them all). From memory the original EB II S-XR6 was timed in the mid to high 15s down the quarter mile (manual of course) in the October '92 Wheels review. Funny to see history repeat with the likes of the FPV Typhoon considered faster than the V8 equivalents until the current 5.0's introduction.

Base model for base model, '90s Commodore V6s are generally faster. The gearing was better suited to brisk take-offs, even though the Falcon was typically more powerful. The margin of the Holden's victory was huge in the EA/VN era, but by the AU/VT era I think Ford was quicker due to Ford's efforts at weight reduction. And the BA onwards would surely out-muscle the equivalent Holdens.

yeah that is true however EBvs VP in one of the articles I got off you the EB came out ahead on acceleration by 0.2 seconds. Now with ED the Diff ration change in standard models made the acceleration of the ED 0.2 seconds slower to 100 and down 0-400m. Interestingly enough the VR commodore acheived Identical 0-100 and 0-400meter times as the EB. which is interesting. Generally tho the ford sixes have always had the upper hand in rolling acceleration.

Regarding BA onwards most review's I have read have shown its been a game of leap frog. BA was better then VYI and VYII but BA Mark II was not as good as VZI or VZII but BF Flogged VZII and VEI then FG came out and beat VEI but then SV6 got SIDI and it apparently beats FG XR6. But that being said I have not yet found performance times for Eco LPI. Given that its got noticably more torque and alittle bit more power.

Would be more interested to see what ford could do with Direct injection on petrol 4.0L tho Id be keen to see.

I'll have to have another look when I get home, but I am pretty sure Wheels has times for the FG2 XR6 EcoLPi in the back pages of its mag, and from what I remember it is up there with the quickest stock Falcon and Commodores. Anyway, I just came across this randomly when I was searching, and thought it was pretty cool.

Yeah New Age FG has finally caught the old Phase III with a XR6 N/A. That being said on these times for the ED. There is a scan from another thread where EB XR6 Manual Cracked 0-100 in 7.2 and 0-400 in 15.2. Now that is right on the money of FG XR6 N/A Pace and also that of the VE SV6.
