Digital dash for e-series

Postby Gunns » February 21st, 2008, 8:20 am

Ok my cousin is board at work, so I told him to build me a digital plugin dash with with dataloging for an e-series. So he is now looking to make a few of them. What would people pay for something like this and what features would you like to see?

- Speed
- RPM
- Shift warning
- Fuel
- AFR
- inlet temp
- water temp
- oil presure
- Volts
- Amps

It will look a bit like the Microtech dash

Injector duty cycle would be good.

I would be fairly interested. Assuming everything will work off the existing sensors, maybe $150 in a kit form or $200 or so ready built?

Where your standard instrument cluster plugs in. There will be some extra wiring to the ecu to get the other functions to work.

This may detract from the whole "raw data on display" thing, but I reckon an LCD display with a macro/program similar to a tuning program (where you can see analogue gauges, etc, such as what you see when punting around backstreets with a laptop to see your AFRs, etc) , plus a choice of custom background/gauge styles would be awesome. Or is that a bit too Fast n Furious?

:(

I was being semi-serious

Anyway, do VY-VZ dashes sell for much at the wreckers? The LCD screens in these may work (and possibly be a cheap display alternative) as per Al's initial post?

that would be kinda cool for a nooob like me, but it wouldnt suit the car i would have to get rid of all interior and put a rollcage in just to give it the race look with the dash. VY-VZ dash would be alright, coulndt be too hard to do?

VY and VZ clusters run different. VY uses analog signals and the VZ is digital signals. dont know which one would suit E-series application.

you can get them on ebay for around $200 for SS ones but you would only need a standard one if you only want the screen. the high series models have 3 LCD screens and base to mid range is 1.

I'd pay $5. There's a programing guide for this stuff on ebay, digital speedo etc etc using the digital taco display :-)

However I would like the idea as long as you shows you everything. I can't think of this being a cheap mod though..

Seems interesting, but I don't have the money. I would love to get something like Dave said to interface with my carPC, so I could flick to analogue gauges on my touchscreen and view that. If anyone has any information about that, I would love to get pointed in the right direction.

Oh yes, definitely not cheap, and definitely a potential headfuck! I just thought I'd throw the idea of the VY-VZ dash out there :)
