Cheers for the comments all. I was a fan of many US cop shows in the '90s which makes this quite a treat. Not sure how long I'll keep it but time will tell.

Mr Wilson: I have that day free and could be there as long as I could hire a trailer. What would be involved in organising a spot for the car at AFD?

Wayne: I looked it up out of curiosity and in terms of length, this is pretty crazy. No wonder I had so much fun getting it through my garage. I made a little graph, though I think the Caprice's width may be inclusive of mirrors so it's not completely accurate.

I suppose the size counts when you are doing this:

You can do an Entry on the day for AFD, but you'll be parked in the general area, not with the clubs.
alternatively, you *might* be able to contact AFD for a late club entry.

or take a chance if someone drops out and you can pickup their entry.

would be a sweet car to have in our display lol.

I paid 7.8k. It is in very good condition though, and the previous owner spent 4k on it he reckons. That other one is definitely cheap, though transport would cost a bit.

I have e-mailed an enquiry re AFD. If I can show it with you guys I will do it, otherwise I probably won't bother.

Postby Troutman » March 8th, 2013, 8:56 am

G'day all,

Pardon the thread mine but I wanted to give some updates, including a quandary that I'm facing with this car. I've had to move from a full house to a tiny one bedroom apartment which has no safe parking except for my other car. It's currently with my mechanic friend who has done almost all the work on it. A few highlights:

* Former mess of wiring on the inside (for lights etc) properly run and installed
* DBA 2148X cross-drilled/slotted front rotors with Hawk pads all round - this alone was over $500 in parts
* Optima Yellow Top battery
* K&N air filter
* Previously neglected general servicing including spark plugs, oil and filters
* Replacement CB radio including new bootlid aerial
* Park brake wasn't working, fixed with new cable, brake shoes etc
* I spent nearly a grand importing a CarCapsule inflatable cover.

Also on the show car front, I bought a large US flag as well as a large 'police line: do not cross" tape which you'll see in this video, which was the car's only proper display other than the AFD event:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tl5EmXFlGOk

I did everything to such a high standard as I wanted to keep it long term. The next planned stage was a transmission service and new suspension bushes, but alas it looks like I'm going to have to let the car go due to the storage issues which won't be resolved any time soon. :(

When I sell, if possible I was hoping it could stay in the BoostedFalcon community so it isn't lost for good. There's no way I'd let it go if I didn't have to, but at least I hope the next owner can continue to treat it as I have.

Cheers. :(

i have to ask mate.

for a car you cant drive on the road.
why did you bother with the slotted discs etc? unless you planned on taking it on a track?

It can be sort of driven on a permit, especially if just for servicing etc. It's 15 years old now so could possibly be registered in some states, but not Vic.

My reasoning with the rotors was that these cars aren't the last word in chassis dynamics to start with and probably need all the help they can get. I try not to cut corners in this area.

Cheers.
