Word of advice to car buyers - don't be time wasters

Postby abcent » October 4th, 2013, 10:39 am : heeef Likes this post

Word of advise to people buying cars....don't be time wasters... Figure out how much $$$ your going to need, have it in cash ready to go, THEN start enquiring about the car. Don't negetiate the price of the car via text, cash talks! So turn up to look at it then negotiate from there (unless you coming from very far away to look then an actual PHONECALL is required). There's no emotion involved with texting, so sellers less likely to budge on price as at that point your still not a serious buyer, and buyers... Lots of pics are good and all, but how can you know the actual condition of it or how it drives without seeing it in person? You might see it an think your getting a bargain at its current price for all you know! I mean how many cars on here do you see the phrase " pics don't do it justice" ?

Pretty sure most who have sold cars in the past will agree? I'm currently selling my car and am getting beyond fed up with time wasters that can't actually buy the car regardless of how much they want to. Asking me to wait till they sell their car, or get approved for loans or swapping for all kinda random stuff I don't want or need lol :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Anyway..... :hmm: end rant  :drinks2:

Preaching to the choir mate.

As a seller you just need to be blunt. Example of someone who texted me about a car we had on the market for $7,900:

Douche: "Would you take 5000 cash?

Me: "No. I'd rather keep it than sell for so little."

End of conversation.

Meh, it's always been the same.
Don't like it, trade.

BTW, I've bought LOTS of cars sight unseen negotiated via phone only.

Yeah my Xw wagon I have had about 10 people msg and email and ring me . give me time they coming by (and not turning up) or coming to look at car and then trying to trade or ask for it for like half the price

However when I sold my dads commodore and ed they both negotiated over phone came from out of state and picked it up and left .

I just my opinion, and what I've experienced over the years. And as I buyer I tend not to negotiate till I've seen the car in person an know what it's genuinely like, cash in my hand ready to deal. I've had some time wasters as sellers too! Turn up all keen on the car an find its in much much worse condition then in pics and description....

I guess always having modified cars will always get interest of tyre kickers, I just hate beeing messed around, by text, phone call or in person. I've wasted 3 separate days due to "texters" and their not showing up an haven't heard from them since. Perhaps a simple "won't be coming" text is too much to ask lol

If texting negotiations has worked for you guys in the past then I'm glad it worked out for you, I just seem to get nothing but dreamers texting questions, even making times to come see it... Then don't show. Or 3 iPhone screens of text dialog saying there super keen... Then nothing

Shit happens, comes with selling a car..... All that. I'm just venting my annoyance at the world :drinks2:

Phone call negotiating is expected if car is a long distance away/interstate, but they'd also be showing genuine interest through actually talking to you about the car I'm guessing (not texting), and likely to be a few phone calls?

Same old stories.

Had a bloke ring up for my BA, I was an hour away from home at a family BBQ, said he had cash ready and wants to look (18k), after me telling him give me 2 hours (go home and then clean it) I call him back after waiting almost 3 hours to be told "not that keen mate, would you take 10k?"

He couldn't understand why I lost my shit and told him to go **** himself.

But, the good stories. Kester and I only really texted during the sale, he rang me first up and said how much for it as is with no Roady or reg (as he was interstate) I said 16k, deal was done deposit was transferred, 4 days later I picked him up from the airport and he drove home.

Moral of the story, you get time wasters and shit kunts, but the car won't sell until the right buyer comes along, don't nurse the shit kunts!!

Just the times I guess there has always been time wasters. Everyone txts these days is all I ever do. I find it so much easier. I have brought a few cars by txt. Haven't had any problems

I have also been stuffed around by a lot. But you have there number if there not there when they say there going to be send them a msg. If they don't reply ring them. If they still don't answer chances are they ain't going to show. Saves wasting your day waiting around.

I also paid it off over a month and a bit.

If you get a low offer I just ignore it. Tell them to piss off fuels them in my experience.

Also f#ck forums for selling cars, ive sold all my recent ones on gumtree within a week of advertising, but I had reasonable prices on them Imo.

Don't try and sell a car over a car forum, Facebook and to a lesser extent Gumtree and none of these problems will happen and/or be minimised. :P

Carsales seems to be a much better way to buy/sell a car. People are only on there for one thing as its a dedicated site. You get too many spur of the moment shitkickers types on FB etc...

Yeah same I had more shitkickers off carsales than gumtree.

I always negotiate before going to see also, no point wasteing mine or the sellers time if they won't even contemplate my offer.
