1988 EA wagon engine upgrade - looking for the guru

Postby Anthony Wright » March 28th, 2015, 12:34 pm

Gday Ford fans.

I have owned an '88 EA wagon for over ten years, of which 6 have been in the shed up the country.

My mechanically minded mate has fitted a newer motor to it from the '90's.

IT's EB I think. Anyway, he gets the motor to start, and it won't run after that. I suspect it's something to do with computers and relays.

Has anyone done this job successfully here?

Start with more details on the car is it cpi or mpfi.
what model from the 90's.
did you go from cpi to mpfi.
did you use a ecu from said 90's model.
did you use parts from a running car ie dizzy, coil.
was the ea running or had you strarted it Before swap.
has it got fresh fuel and working fuel pump.

give as many details as possible and you might get some replies/help/advise.

Thanks Taxi Man.
I'll get back to you with all that info.
I really want the old EA wagon back on the road as it has column shift automatic and bench seat - something that is now unavailable - it takes me back to my teenage days in the '70's driving early '60's Fords - what a beautiful thing is a bench seat with column shift if you like relaxing driving .

Ok, well, thanks for your response Taxi Man. I called my mechanical friend and he has solved the issue.

All it was, was the Map Sensor.

He had been assured by a garage that it would not be the Map Sensor, but that's all it was.

So now, the it's time to prepare the LPG and have the seal tested (the petrol tank is up and running), and fix some minor issues, and the car will be presented for a RWC and then put on a Club Permit. (I've already got an '89 5 on the floor EA on permit which I bought off an old chap in VGC, as well as an '85 Laser, with a '92 waiting in the wings, so I think I have enough cars now).
