SA road safety advocate loses his licence for.... SPEEDING!

Postby AaronEF8 » March 19th, 2008, 10:03 pm

This is just too funny.

http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/stor ... 82,00.html

This guy is constantly in the local papers pushing for lower speed limits and harsher fines. Yet he got done 4 TIMES in the same places he pushed to have the speed limit dropped. Twice by over 30km/h over the limit.

Now if a waste of oxygen like this can't obey his own speed limits (in the VE Calais 6.0 that we taxpayers pay for) how is everyone else supposed to follow stupid laws bought about by knee-jerk reactions. Someone crashes on a 100km/h road, 'speed was the obvious factor'. Don't worry about the giant kangaroo that jumped out, the .18 BAC, running through a stop sign or falling asleep. It was all going over the posted speed limit.

If this isn't a good example on how much of a joke speed limits are, I don't know what is.

Punishment by stoning via spinning wheels in gravel while naked.

Accidents are also never caused by poor tyres/suspension/brakes, driving without glasses when necessary, not adjusting driving style to suit conditions, lack of skill/judgement, drugs or tailgating.

What are you trying to say? Driving on a public road while your mind is in an altered state is OK?

I've driven drunk and driven stoned when I was younger (twice each). I was fine, was ultra-careful and didn't think I was any worse than normal. But it's not the lack of skill, it's the reaction timing and the ability to negotiate a potentially fatal situation in a matter of microseconds that's the problem. Something you probably haven't had too much practice at.

So what Dan said.

When you're stoned, IF you concentrate on driving, generally yeah, you are the best driver on the road. Then an awesome song somes on, so you turn it up a bit, fiddle with the stereo settings so it sounds even better. Then you notice the rear view mirror isn't angled quite right, so you spend 40 seconds adjusting it so it's perfect, then another great song comes on, more listening to the song, then the trip computer looks all cool and shit, so you check everything on that. Suddenly you've travelled 5km without even noticing it. Been there, done that. If something jumped out at me etc I would have been fucked big time.
