Having your ID Scanned

Postby Frost » March 17th, 2008, 9:26 pm

Hi Guys,

Just doing some research for a new program that is about to be released.

But how happy are you if your ID was to be scanned entering a Night Spot?

Benifits of ID scanning is protecting people in alot of violence, (people can be identified by photo on ID)
Venue owners can collect stats make business better.

But how happy would you be to hand over your license and let it be entered in a Database to go out with mates?

Doesn't bother me. I wouldn't use it much anyway, hardly ever frequent "Night Spots"

Yeah there's a few places in Geelong that do it. No problems with it (except you have to try to look non-smashed for that little bit longer while they scan your ID in). There's another one that also takes a photo of you as they scan the ID.

Happens everywhere. The only people it would deter are those with something to hide, and therefore you probably wouldn't want them in the venue anyways. Or something.

All the Id scanners in Geelong take a photo of you as well as scanning your Id at the same time.
Once a week all venues that have the scanners and the Geelong Police and do a system hook up together,
Anyone who has been banned from a venue since the last hook up, is then placed on all the other venue's scanners banned list.
All scans are kept for 21 days then automaticly deleted by law,
unless you have been placed on the banned list then your Id stays on the system until such time your ban has expired.
Also Boys and Girls dont forget Geelong CBD in under Police CCTV coverage from about 10pm to 6am every night
and about 10 venues including Macca's on Ryrie st have direct radio contact with them.

That's good to hear actually... considering some of the shit that has happened in Geelong. Mostly in regards to safety for young women - we want them to enjoy going out, not be paranoid about their safety ;)

I know all about the CCTV cvoerage in the Geelong CBD, might make a post in the epic fail thread and let you know about it, but that's a whole different can of worms.

Lamby's in Geelong have the ID scanner biz. I don't have to worry about it though, I just walk in.

But I think it's a great idea.

Funny you say that, im not a Noob, Im a Co-Director in a company that sells CCTV, ID Scanning and access control... We service all of the greated North Eastern Victoria and Bended Elbows including Geelong (but no longer ballarat)

I just like to get a view of peoples opinions :)

If this new law gets passed in the next few months, you get ejected from one venue in geelong thats it for the rest of the weekend anyway at any venue in geelong :) (Information Sharing)

Bended in Ballarat needs ID scans IMO (they didn't have 'em last saturday), the place is becoming pretty fucked up at times. Saw one guy get capsicum sprayed and the crap kicked out of him by 6 coppers in the middle of a big intersection (4lanes x 4lanes). Jeez it was funny :D

I'm all for the idea of scanning id's, and most of the places that i go to already have them inforce. Not too sure about the whole getting kicked out one place and being banned everywere for the entire weekend, as i've been in a few situations (as have alot of my mates), were we've been kicked out at no fault of our own. I suppose it's a small price to pay to keep the majority of wankers out of the pubs/clubs...

Ballarat will have it soon though Jared, just waiting for ol Gary to say yes.

who owns the bended elbow Ballarat now also who does the security their now?
I used to work their when it first opened in 2006 wasnt a bad place back then but we had to keep a lot of people in line and also the coppers (they were the worst).
If you service the scanners when is the patch coming out so we dont get so many missed or incomplete scans of a persons id?
it's a pain in the butt having to type in the details when it doesnt rekonize letters properly.

The security at bended ballarat is the worst of any pub I've ever been to (and I go to an awful lot). It's overzealous some nights, and stupidly lax on others. I've had friends stabbed with bottles (inside the venue), slashed with broken pot-glasses, jumped by 20 guys out the front, and if there is an incident the bouncers always just kick everyone out at the same time and let them sort it out in the street (not exactly fair when it's 20-1). Fuckin arrogant arseholes. Oh, and they can't fight for shit either (yes, the bouncers pick fights with sober patrons).

Makes me angry

Geelong's bended elbow off and on mainly doing Cremorne and ryrie st maccas at the moment.
I know the general manager was a part owner of the bended elbow ballarat Andrew Leshman,
He used to have me and another bloke by the name of big bad ralph sit on our big arses in the beer garden from 6pm till 9pm at the ready just incase of trouble.

Meh who cares this stuff has been around for ages and if you dont try be a hero there should be no issues.

Its not much of an infirgement on your personal space anyway.

In London on weekends to get into a lot of clubs/pubs would require getting patted down, wallet searched, pockets searched - this was everytime on weekends & busy weekday nights. Didnt matter if you were old young, male or female you all got the same treatment. This was mainly to search for drugs though.

Airport sytle secuirty with metal detectors is also quite common over there at pubs and clubs.

Lets hope it doesnt get to that stage over here anytime soon!
