CALLING ALL PANEL BEATERS/ SPRAY PAINTERS... i need help.

Postby speed.freak » April 7th, 2008, 4:19 pm

will hopefully be getting a car in the next few couple of weeks ( either petes (phat' el) ea daily or this other one in hallam, depending on mum) and would like to get it (whichever one) re-sprayed. Just wanted to know what i can do to make the panel beaters/sprayers job a little easier. going to be a full colour change jobby ( including engine bay and door jams) so what can i do to help out a little bit? obviously remove everything in the engine bay,but what else can i do? any input is appreciated.

cheers :)

Just strip it down. Most shops would rather prime it up them selves. Maybe do a bit of panel beating.

Well anything that doesn't need painting. Some shops do tthings different but:
-doors trims, handles, moulds, window rubbers, door seals,
-bumper bars lights any other mould or non painted body trim object. (badges etc)

The engine bay is differnet depending on how your going to get to the paint shop (well removing the bars etc isn't recommended for street driving any way), if you can get someone to trailer it, you can remove the engine stuff thats on the wheel tubs rails etc.
Engine can stay in but some wires and what not will need to be disconnected, and any that can stay attached can be tied to the motor and masked up.

Perhaps It would be best to talk to the shop first, because they all have different ways of doing things.

If your going to do in and out, then basically get it to a rolling shell. Don't prime anything because most places hate when you prime stuff yourself. The final finish depends a lot on the prep work so they will most likely want to do this themselves so there are no issues down the track.

How much will it cost you for the respray? There is a place in Campbellfield it is dodgy as... cant remember what they are called but don't go there, my mate took his skyline there and the crack the front bar and the spray job was terrible. Well if your in VIC don't take it there :D

Have you asked the panel beater whom you intend on having it sprayed by?

most likely going to get it down at the local shop down the street, only place in town, and my mum's had some accident repair done there before, so im assuming they're pretty top notch. probly go down there one day after school and ask about it,see what i can do to help and what not. thanks for the input guys, given me a rough idea of what i need to do. thanks :)
