Street Legal FTW

Police in the Polish city of Lodz have introduced a radical scheme to cut the number of accidents involving boy racers.

The police let the boy racers speed through the city on streets that have been specially closed to other traffic.

It's hoped this plan will drastically cut the number of accidents involving young drivers at night by giving them somewhere they can let loose.

The first legal street races have already taken place and the police are encouraged by the results.

"We've come to an understanding with the organisers of illegal street races," says Lech Ryszewski, who is head of the Lodz Motoring Club.

"We have created a Street Legal section to organise races on closed-off public roads and the participants are obliged to make sure no-one organises races on other city streets."

That's farken sik. Too bad the Aussie laws are so archaic and don't follow any good examples from the rest of the world.

its actually quite a good idea. its like how in sweden, the hottest babes are sex offenders' probation officers.
that makes them sort of, desneitised to the hotness, and i spose that this is a similar effort, as well as locating the 'trouble' to 1 designated area.
As said though, Aus wont ever take it on. Why? Not for the reasons given...but because America wont!

Just need loads of council work signs, and pick a nice section of road and sign a really good detour, get some trucks to semi block the view for oncoming traffic and for the realistic look of road works, then race away.. :D

Sure it may be a good idea in some ways but no doubt there will still be pedestrians crossing the roads.
You cannot expect Melbourne to block off a large part of the community due to infrastructure needs, driver safety will be compromised even more so in these races and if shit goes wrong, cars crash into trees, houses, people, other crap.
In my opinion, it cannot be done

theres a new by-bass in dandenong....its perfect
we race there all the time

its got about 7 sets of lights on it an 4 of them have 1k of flat rd between each of them....
an it runs thru the middle of paddocks...

but like i sed to 1 of my mates, u could build a race track every 5k between pakenham and coburg
and ppl will still race on the street...
its the atmosphere, u cant re-create it anywhere else,
theres no feeling like it.....even if u were to take the 4 hottest intersections of princes hwy
an build them to detail on a private straight rd with decent run off between each 1....
ppl would still race on the street.

its been going on since the 2nd ford rolled of henry fords production line...
the factory workers built it up an raced it against the 1st.

no matter how many great an wonderful an perfect ideas ppl have
nothing will change this.

The new geelong bypass project looks like it will be mint. Can't wait for it to be finished.

Plus the fact there will be less traffic going through Geelong on the highway is good too, more chances of lining up at the lights properly
