I'm not sure it really warrents its own sub forum?

Then i need to create a sedan sub forum? :P

the content of a wagon sub forum would generally fall into other categories, it just might make things more segmented and harder to find stuff.

i have both, king superlow leaves and 1.5" lowering blocks, its just off bump stops and the rear shocks are pretty much on full compression. looking at going larger blocks and shorter shocks, i'll need to cut the bump stops too.

John I think we specifically need an EF GLi wagon auto 4.0 subforum so Scott & I can be contented.

Ive heard of this as well and are looking at shorter ones now but what is the difference between the two is the shorter stiffer or something?

When you use blocks you raise the diff housing up higher, closer to the car, than the leaf springs and shock mounting platform. This means the shock length is the same as std. If you have the leaves reset lower, the shock platform is also closer to the car, meaning the distance between the shock mounts on the body and the diff is shorter, hence the need for shorter stroke shocks, which would prevent the shock from bottoming out.

As I use blocks in my EB, I will be getting STD lenght heavy duty shocks.

As yours is an AU, and as I understand it you can't use blocks, and therefore should have had the leaves reset, you should look at getting some heavy duty Short Stroke shocks.

Hope that makes sense.

Cheers
BenJ

Yeah mate cheers ill be putting some in real soon it must be bottoming out the shock on big bumps or hitting the diff bump stop or a combination of both so its in desperate need of some new ones.

Re: The wagon thread.

Postby Commando » October 9th, 2009, 7:27 am

I had a verrrrry brief look at their forum. I understand where they're coming from, being a commodore-based wagon club, however by lumping sedans, motorbikes, utes, and non-commodore wagons into the "other rides" section is a bit ordinary, if I had built that forum setup and wanted to keep the commodore wagon bias, I'd split that into "other rides" and "other wagons", with the wagons (notably several Liberty wagons, mad!) taking precedence over Commodore sedans. <-- EDIT: what a ****ing long sentence!

It's kind of like here, we have far more n/a E-Series here than forced B-Series, on BoostedFalcon.net

Phil - I saw nothing wrong with the posts in your thread, not sure what the problem is?

meh, their club, let them handle it the way they want to.

Its amusing though.. the general structure of Commodore related clubs seems so different to that of Ford related Clubs,

Ford clubs are generally - X-Series / E-Series / AU / BA etc
Commodore clubs are more so based on body styling, Street Wagons/Street Class Limos (Stato's etc)

saying that, we're different again, we're a little more generic advertising a bit more as a general ford club.

That would leave PLENTY of room for various topics!

* How do I get that garbage smell out of the back?
* HELP I hit a roo! Can you do a hobo wheel alignment using a length of 2x4?
* Hitchhiker stories
* Mudflaps bling
* Venetians vs "privacy curtains" vs painted windows

the diffs are the same as all other e-series only with a different housing to take the leaf springs

25 spline in EA and EB1 EB2 ED EF EL are 28 from memory

If you want to go overboard you can drop a 9" diff in them easy enough by using an XD 9" just need to drop disc brakes on it

if you get a ghia wagon they usually have LSD....not always but usually

I will have for sale in the near future an EB2 Fairmont Ghia wagon...... silver in color, lowered, 17's, 2 1/2" exhaust, all the usual Ghia options....leather velour 50/50 recaro style trim, power windows, climate control, trip comp, cruise control, ABS, etc, etc, etc

Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being would eat?

if your 3.9's and spool are in you ED they should slot straight into the same series in a wagon....

There are two ways to lower the wagon.

As it uses Leaf Springs, instead of coil springs, you can use lowering blocks, which are inserted between the leaf spring and the diff, raising the diff closer to the car, and lowering the car. This method is the cheaper option, and does not change the stiffness of the existing springs.

Or you can take the existing springs to a suspension joint, and get them 'reset'. This alters the ride height, and can stiffen the springs at the same time.

On my wagon, I am currently using 2 1/4 inch blocks, and some load helpers, which can stiffen the rear by tightening up the nuts.

Combined with S/Low Kings in the front, this is what the stance looks like.

Hope this helps.

thanks benj great post.

so can you buy lowerd leaf springs or do you have to get them reset? load helper things look like a good idear. did the sway bar make much of a diffrence? is there a need for shortend shocks? have you had to cut your bump stops?

id probly want the same stance mabey a tiny bit lower as PSI250 but as stiff as i can get it...
