What is it like to drive? Go offroad and give me a run down :)
You know, I can't even tell if its got a rear lokka, it must have though, i can't see Tom not fitting one to this beast. If my lokka comes back as quiet as this diff I'll be rapt :)
Its the funniest thing to drive, it bucks and wallows so much. People just stop and stare at it, it stands out above the crowd a bit! Put your indicator on to change lanes and cars get out your way. So not used to that in SA.

They dont make rear lokka's for patrols unfortunately :(

Lock the hubs and drive up something!!

4wd's are the best.

I just noticed something, after fitting my new clutch....the lokka is much nicer to drive (still a pita on occasion obviously though)

I fitted a solid center non-cushioned twin plate, and can now idle long in carparks (albeit with VERY careful throttle applications) without the car pig-rooting. I reckon the solid center of the clutch actually reduces the noticable backlash of the drivetrain - I can also change gears while turning low speed corners without the synchros having a spac attack too :)

Just thought you guys might like to keep that in mind, next time you are looking at buying a new clutch...

I've driven for a week now with the new springs in the centre.
Its not much quieter at all, but it has removed a LOT of the harshness from the lokka. Before I would drive around the lokka, to make it smoother. Now, its much smoother itself, I just drive the car normally again. So in my opinion, the new springs are definately worth fitting.

Tom would like my car back again soon to try some different diff oil in it too, and maybe after that, some softer springs again.

Will keep you informed of outcomes.

Swoite. Have you got an auto or manual? In what ways is it smoother? Can you drop off the throttle around a corner with the center unlocked, and have it not pig root? Does it still snage and snatch if you turn quickly and sharply, like in a parking lot?

It unlocks and locks smoothly, no pig rooting. I've chucked some quick uturns off the throttle, and it just clicks madly without snagging.

I need these new fricken springs. The snatching and snagging is getting annoying.

Update- My car is going back on the 14th and I should get it back on the 16th. Tom has different springs again to try and kill the noise.
Fingers crossed I get to use the Patrol O' Doom again :P

Got the car back today.
Its slightly quieter again, may get quieter still after I've driven it a bit more. Again, I have noticed an improvement in operation. The lokka comes in and out very smoothly. I have tried a few thing, like fast u turns and it just ratchets smooth as with out any shunting, then when you accelerate it locks smoothly and goes.

Tom is happy with the current springs and will be sending them out once he has a batch made up.

I thought that they made made good ground on driveability already? What are they trying to improve now? I personally don't mind if it takes them another 3 months, its a prick of a job to pull out/put back in, so I'd rather them get it right the first time.

I am used to my lokka, I love it. The only thing that would be good to minimise is the snagging when you do a slow speed tight u-turn or slow speed tight turn. It likes to swap back and forth between each wheel unlocking, instead of one unlocking and just ticking.

If you've driven a car with one you probably know what I mean.

Apparently the other week when it rained the diff in Fairmont1998's car kept unlocking when it shouldn't have, so the springs are getting looked at again.

I think I might just put mine in myself, it can't be that hard, right? :?

Ah super gay - it's actually locked then coming unlocked under power? That should be impossible!
