For motorists this means if you're caught in a situation where you'd normally recieve a infringement, you'll be looking at losing your car for 30 days and then being issued a summons to court. It's an effective way of telling the Vic Government 'get f***ed' by jamming the courts full of pissy issues because they aren't willing to pay the 4.5% pay rise that's been asked for.

Thanks for clearing up the confusion Constable Tim - Only been in the force for a few months, and already talking like a disgruntled member with many years experience and in dire need of a pay increase. Hope you don't take out that anger on people just trying to keep shit real.

Exactly Tim, how dare you stick up for yourself and your workmates, who would have been threatened with death of themselves and family members in the line of work. How dare you ask for more money when your job involves dealing with people who have a weapon, and want to use it to kill you. How dare you work such long dangerous hours for pay slightly above a storemans wage.

But seriously, I gotta clear this up. Does VicPol have a Robocop? And will he be deployed on the Hwy this friday?

All I'm pointing out is that when he got in the job he would have known about pay disputes, so if you're already bitching out about the pay then you've joined the wrong profession. It was more about the tone the content was delivered in, not the content itself.

Also I risked my life every day at DickRoads too. I put my life on the line up to 8 times a day taking Asians for driving tests. Thats more times in a day than a cop would. I have **** all regard for Police at the moment. They are useless at the best of times - but I'll just add - yea, there are definitely the good ones out there.

xr_lightning, vic roads dont inspect cars anymore due to the new RWC laws. You just rock up with your RWC papers and it gets cleared. no inspections needed.

lol, did I mention that I have a RWC licence, you cant just "rock up" and they clear it, its still under Vicroads discretion as per normal whether they inspect a vehicle or not, so your telling me if you get a minor defect it just clears itself also, without them even checking it??

Cops will probably be out stronger than ever cos of grand final weekend and because people may think they will get away with doing stupid things..

I don't see any issue in people asking for a pay rise, but for police to argue they want a pay rise because they put their life at risk seems stupid! Unless they went into the job thinking/being told there is no risks involved at all?!

The whole clogging up the courts thing is what normal mortorists should do everytime they get a speeding fine, take further action!

I can't wait till we all have gps trackers in our cars and money will be directly debited out of our accounts every time we exceed the speed limit!

xr_lighting, from my understanding VIC ROADS staff dont have the time and knowledge to go around and look over cars, and this is why the new RWC laws were imposed, so lessen the burden off vic roads staff.

never asked about a minor. MY comment is for major's.

well you said defects/roadworthies, so I assumed major & minor, but no the new laws are not for that reason, they are purely for auditing purposes, so the tester can actually prove the car was on their premises to Vicroads and an RWC inspection was actually carried out on the vehicle, its somewhat effective, but still would be pretty easy to dodge though if you wanted to

After working in Emergency Department at Frankston Hospital on a Fri, Sat and Sun night I do have a respect for cops around some of the shit they have to deal with but they aren't the only people that deal with it - nurses, security, doctors etc have to deal with the same sort of stuff that Tim mentioned - deceased, car accident victims, druggies, getting attacked by patients on a daily basis in mental health etc.

For example the drug f*cked guy that come into ED with a knife, had Hep C and cut himself to the bone on purpose getting blood everywhere. Or the 17 year old kid on drugs the cops had to sit with for 6+ hours purely because there wasn't any beds for him.

I'm an admin person currently supporting an IT system at Peninsula Health and my life was put on the line working in Mental Health and ED when the guy with the knife was yelling out to me directly and I had to get behind screen doors etc. But I didn't ask for a payrise, just part of the job. (I actually enjoyed the experience :) )

The thing that really gets to me is the amount of cops that flood places like the hwy to defect a car that may be 'too low' etc yet in the mean time some girls getting raped or murdered somewhere and the cops aren't available.

Good of Tim to clear up things, I'll end my rant now :)

i don't think what you did was comparable to what cops have to put up with every day.
nurses and doctors who are in those situations are either already well paid, or have asked for pay rises in the past.

we all have different jobs to do in different sectors of a chosen career, ie Eb Barbie works in health care, but going by her post she works in the admin rather than the mediacl care section, so we could not expect her to attend to patient care. The police department has different sectors as well, the TMU's prime role is to control traffic management, ie cars and roads etc, yes they may attend other situations if directed to, but their main role is to look after traffic, not chase rapists etc

agreed ratter. I think the cops have it pretty bad. My old mans a copper. He's a great bloke and the day he defects a car or stops someone for doing just 10 over ill give away my cars.. he has seen some of the worst shit around. Been scratched/bitten/cut/punched etc by Junkies and the like. Death threats, called a Pig. All that good shit. He even recieved a commendation medal for reefing a bloke who was in mid jump out of the air trying to commit suicide.

Cops are usually the first to fatal car accidents/ murders/ suicides etc Just a few months ago some bloke shot himself in the head with a .303 splayed brain/skull fragments in a 50m radius. first there. Im sure he would love to go to traffic branch. But you would spend all day seeing people who hate seeing you.

I could go on all day about Police and thier job. IMO they are unsung heroes, as well as Nurses/ ambo / firey's all have low pay for what they do. I like to go to work everyday knowing ill come home safe and not with Aids from pricking myself on a syringe in some blokes pocket. So tonight do them a favour and dont go spreading yourselves across the pavement. and be wary of others who arent so smart. :D peace out

I work in an Emergency Dept and the story Eb Barby told isnt uncommon. Although its usally me who has to brave the insanity and restrain the patient from hurting any other by-standers or staff.

I have had my fair share of dramas and it gets old especially at 3am and all you want to do is close your eyes for 20 mins. I have slung junkies over my shoulder who have had an od and rushed them to the resus bay where the dr's hit them with narc. Then i spend the next 45mins holding legs, arms, head down because they are awake and abusing you for ruining their hit. I have lost count how many times I have been hit, spat on, shat on, and sworn at.

Im currently recoving from an injury from when a elderly dementia patient tried to rip my thumb off. I cant get angry at them.

All of this for $20 per hour. Im not complaining, I like what I do.

Believe it or not I have had one patient reach into their own pants grab a hand full and throw it at me. The most common method is while transporting patients to the toilet on a toilet chair and they just cant hold it in, results in the bottom of my pants and shoes cop it. Also when I roll patients they end up in a fetal position, the perfect position for explosive projectile poop.

I'm a hero because I can claim that i have never spewed when nasty, disgusting, rank smelling, things have happened.

I can also 100% say that THE WORST smell is bowel surgery. You can smell it 5 theatre's away :cray:
