It beat me on the street once, maybe twice. All the other times were dead even to about 160. It usually came down to the launch and who had grippier tyres.

Useless sht cleaned out of the thread.

NA V8 > NA I6. Doesn't matter who wins the races or whatever. I DGAF. If I'm driving an NA Falcon, I want it to be smooth, punchy down low, sound good and tow a wreck home from Lavvo no hassles. V8 can do all that, + run mid 15's all day long with just an exhaust.

The AU XR8 (185kw) is Quicker than the EF-EL (non 185kw) XR8 primarily because of the diff gears. Whats a few kw in the top end gonna really do. The AU XR8 is also heavier, so i reckon in the modest state of tune, the GT40 heads and different intake manifold make f-all difference. Its the diff gears that get it moving. The heads and manifold only benefit when other mods allow..

AU series 1 XR8 0-100 7.1secs, 400m 15.1 secs.
EF XR8 0-100 8.1secs, 400m 15.8 secs.

^^^ WTF has that got to do with the topic regarding ELs?

*EDIT* Aaron has already mentioned this --> The AU XR8 also had a larger TB, MAF, plus a different (better breathing) exhaust system. Factor all those into the equation, it's not just the heads & intake manifold. As for the 3.45s compared to 3.23s... There's 6% difference there, not much at all.

The AU XR8 weighs around 1650kgs kerb weight. My EB 5.0 weighs in at around 1600kgs, so there's a 50kg difference tops assuming EF-EL XR8s weigh the same as my EB.

As for your diff gears argument, Kenaz and I were pulling near-identical times in our 5.0s, with the sole engine/driveline difference being he had 3.45s and I have 4.11s. I had a better launch than him, but his taller gearing helped him past the halfway mark.

You're right, a few KW (though we are talking 12% here) in the top end doesn't really do *that* much, but because you have clearly never driven an AU XR8 (or E-Series with a similar motor), you have no idea what you're on about. Have you ever heard of something called torque? What do you think drives the diff gears in the first place? Magical fairy dust?

Again, saying "I reckon" shows you have no idea at all about what you are talking about.

"I reckon" you should shut the **** up and not talk about shit you have no idea about, until you do have actually experienced these things. Didn't learn from the last ban? Don't worry, I'm sure there will be time...

So when's this race actually going ahead to stop all of these guesses???

Also does anyone have the factory torque figures???? Torque causes acceleration so you need to quote these figures as well as the KW.

If weather holds out the run will be tonight at Wsid.

Put your money on the 5.0. If we get two runs we are going to swap cars so we will see if the driver has made a difference...

Don't like your chances with the weather...

Just find a quiet industrial area, and make sure you avoid any Kias
