LOL I can just imagine a protest....a bunch of modified cars travelling at like 10km/h on a busy rd at peak time.....then about 50 TMU cars will rock up and defect every single one of them :P

"50 hoons in high powered heavily modified turbo-supercharged vehicles on nitrous oxide with no exhausts blockaded a city street this afternoon, bringing peak traffic to a standstill. Luckily, the Traffic Operations Group was on-hand to defect all the illegally modified vehicles and eventually disperse the rowdy hoons. Police have advised the blockade was an illegal drag racing meet."

Funny you say that. Probably about 7-8 years ago, Dad was driving the old diesel Rodeo. Anyway he was going down a hill with a tailwind so he got to about 115kph when he got done by a copcar. Now the cop has given Dad a fine, then looking at the rather craptacular condition of the Rodeo has asked him "Is this thing registered?". Dad hadn't even put the new rego sticker on so he goes "yeah, the sticker's in the glovebox". He goes through the glovebox pulling out stickers for the motorbike, and the boat before finding the one for the Rodeo. They weren't fussed with this at all. The windscreen in the Rodeo had a massive crack running in the drivers line of sight the full length of it, and 2 half moon shaped cracks at the bottom. They didn't care! Even another time when Dad had a cop in the passenger seat, he didn't care that about 1/2 of the drivers seat had worn through the foam, right to the exposed springs! On the other hand, the other night a cop tried to get me for too much play in what is actually a decent condition seat. IMO country cops are great. Up here, there are too many on massive power trips.

Ok... like everyone, i am completely aggainst all of this blockading/ defecting bullshit from the police, but at the end of the day, it all happens for a reason. Cause and Effect. During the night, i saw about 4 doughy's and 2 standstills happen in front of me before it hit 10pm!! And it gets worse every week. Im pretty sure this is what the cops are aiming at and trying too prevent, but they're going about it all in the wrong manner. As Wilson has said, a mass protest from numerous car clubs rallying together would be the strongest point, and i for one agree and put my hand up.

But for firday night, not ALL copper's are wankers. For example, the one i spoke too, he looked at my licence, had a quick chat too me bout what i was doing and where i was going, i didnt lie about anything saying i WAS gonna hit the highway and chapel, but i WASNT going too be a hoon and i had new $410 tyres on anyway, and that i was there for the social scene. After that, he let me by without taking a look at my vehicle AT ALL. I could have been done for ride height, or bubbling tint, etc, but all the cops are looking for IMHO is intellegent drivers who arnt looking for trouble, or causing chaos.

Anyway, thats my 2 cents worth... LoL

:x FFS, next 6 weeks or so the police will be out doing EXACTLY what they have been doing for the last 3 weeks. Surely someone has cottoned onto this by now. Stay the F*** away from the Princess on a Friday or Saturday night. WTF is the point on going out there knowing full well the police are setting up stings everywhere and then coming onto a public forum and bitching about it.

Not all police are assholes, actually alot of them are just like us, especially those in the TMU unit. They all appreciate nice cars, but the don't tolerate fu**wit driving that happens on the weekends. There lies the problem. The Princess is a known hot spot for the coppers and a problem area for hoon driving, so if you are pulled up there on a Friday night you are presumed guilty by association. Just keep away for a while, let them do what they have to do.

it seems that there were minimal people from Boosted there on friday.

Considering in past weeks there have been heaps of us, i think its safe to say we have noticed and are playing it smarter.
most of those who were done were on other forums.
and there was plenty of them!

The same has been going on in QLD for the last few weeks, cops pretty much rock up at any sorta meets going on and usually block people in and hand out defects etc. etc. i know i've been caught up in a few over the last few weeks and have escaped unscathed thus far.

Its fairly shithouse when your not doing anything wrong and are just there catching up with people. I guess "hoon's" are the current police scaremongering tactic so what can you expect from an organisation mostly focussed on revenue and not the real issues.

Postby Rollin » February 9th, 2009, 5:59 pm

They had a massive RBT blitz in Brisbane last saturday night - I was coming home from a party at about 130 and decided to get some subway. Crossed the river and met a huge RBT station.

The chick tested me (0.00) and asked me if that was my number plate on the dash (I have a fake plate "Rollin" near the rego sticker) after I pointed out that my number plates are screwed to the front and back of the car she told me to take it down because "It is illegal to display a fake number plate, and you can be ticketed for it, QLD transport inspectors are just over there and the will fine you".

I told her I would take it down as soon as I parked. Out of all the illegal shit on my car she picked on that?????

Then left subway to go a different way home, and met another RBT station....blew 0.00 and was instructed by a cop to pull over to the side and pop the bonnet. He had a good look at the bonnet vents to make sure I hadn't cut any of the bonnet bracing (which I haven't), had a look around the car and told me I could go. No mention of the "fake" number plate or all the other illegal shit on the car...

Got through the city and was about 2km from home, and you guessed it, another bloody RBT station. Blew 0.00 for the third time in about 20 mins, was held up for a minute or two while someone looked at something at the back of the car (possibly the amusing date/rego written in nikko beside the impact damage from a subaru failing to stop when he should have) then allowed to go.

5 different cops, none of them picked up obvious shit, two picked on dumb stuff and two others didn't notice or care. I'm not complaining because I didn't get done, but where's the bloody consistency?
Image

Look at your car. Now back to mine. Now back to yours. Now back to mine. Sadly, yours isn't mine. But if you stopped buying dodgy cars and bought an ED, yours could be like mine. Look down. Back up. Where are you? ...You're on BoostedFalcon, reading the signature your signature could be like! Anything is possible when your car looks like my car... I'm on a computer.

Rollin wrote:...but where's the bloody consistency?

There isn't any, it pisses me off. We see them fining people for some things and not other things. Then sometimes they are just out to fine people for anything they can.

Example: Last week at Aspley Tim got done for his horn not working after having the silvia scrutinised top to bottom. When we got there they had blocked off the car park and were going through every import and 'hot hatch' as they tried to leave. We turned up and clearly saw them setting up, Tim parked the car and we got out to eat our food. Minding our own business as usual. The inevitable happened and they wanted to check out the Silvia. Tim was the height of politeness and was more than cooperative. Anyway after all this they fined him $100 and all the ticket said was 'defective car'. Tim asked if he had to present the car after the horn was fixed and the cop said no "you seem pretty mature to me, I trust you will get it fixed". (something to that effect anyway)

I say NO, **** you... how about saying "Your car is in good condition except for the horn, just get that fixed."

The reason I get angry is while they were going over his car I was watching average family cars driving past us and the five or so cops checking over the car. I noticed the following things wrong with them... no tail lights, noisy wheel bearings, only one headlight, a rusty old holden ute that somehow still put in a hard days work on a construction site and no doubt some of them had bald tyres too.

Are they kidding me? Tim essentially got fined for having an import, a bog stock import, not even turbo, with only a CD player, alloys and a nardi steering wheel. Even stock ride height... Unbelievable!

...and the cops wonder why they have a bad rep with car enthusiasts.

Its only the Dandenong Police that are the problem atm, even at VicRoads they arent too keen on them. All its doing is wasting everyones time, Police doing paperwork and VicRoads coming out to check cars have been fixed.

God damn, you guys must all live on the wrong side of town, cos I never see any of this! I must admit, I don't exactly go out 'cruising' as much as you blokes, but still! I just don't understand how you guys all seem to get hassled so much by the police. I have only ever been pulled over three times in my life since i was 18, twice for speeding in back streets, and was only fined once. My car was most likely too low up until Thursday (put Lows back in the rear) yet I have never had a cop even question me about my car. I don't even know what an EPA car looks like, let alone have ever seen a 'sting' set up!
I guess its just like a few other people have mentioned, if you keep going back to the same spots, you are going to get nicked. What's the bet that I get done in the first week after getting my blower set up though! :(
Maybe my car is just not as attractive as i like to think. Which is probably a good thing! I would love to join you blokes in complaining, but i really don't have anything to complain about. Its not like I exactly drive like a grandpa, my car gets shit every time i get in it. Maybe you bloke should all move to the northern suburbs! :P

Same here - I have NFI what an EPA car looks like. TMU vehicle? Never seen one.

The Werribee police are constantly on strike as they're chronically understaffed - hardly any cops here. Haven't been pulled over since I was off my P plates - that's now.. 4 years. Touch wood...

ITs actually 8 different police forces involved in this . There is Casey(narre warren) Packenham , Dandenong , Springvale,
Oakliegh and caulfield i Believe alot of the guys that are on bikes are from stkilda,
I cant remember off the top of my head who the other was.

ClassicAU, I was in the same boat personally till Friday. I'd been pulled over once for speeding, back when I was on my p-plates. The only other times I'd been pulled over was at RBT stations, where pretty much everyone were getting pulled over anyway. The most recent time I got breathtested was a bit different to most because it was the first time they held me for longer to have a good look at my rego sticker. Mind you, it was the 29th of January which was when my rego was due. I paid it on the 27th and put the sticker on the same day so nothing was wrong there.

Last Friday though was the first time a cop had ever payed close attention to my car. I agree most cops are fine, but there are some who are just on a massive power trip and the one who went over my car on Friday was one of those. Hopefully this isn't the start of anything for me, as I enjoyed the freedom of driving without worrying about cops trying to canary me. I mean my care isn't mechanically perfect, but is probably still good for an EA. I try to keep it well maintained, and I'm sure there are plenty of cars worse than mine out there.

Touch Wood but of all the times ive been pulled over for an offence, Primarily burnouts ive never had a police officer get power trippy on me. Two times come to mind after the hoon laws. Both i had smoke everywhere and i just got a fine and wasn't scrutineered . I was flogging the guts out of the car one night and turned a corner into an RBT. The dude said he could hear me comming and said the car sounded nice. I gave it some stick leaving the pullover for his benefit haha

Ive also been pulled over for going through an orange light. 1 headlight and a tailight missing. 1 bald tyre. For some reason they checked a backpack in the car for spray cans lol? weird shit
Its a stack of f*ck shit, on top of itself niggaaaaaa

It's an EA. The only worse cars out there are other EAs.

lol. There's a Camry near me which had a smashed headlight for about the last 2 years. They drive it around, but because it's a white Camry wagon cops don't even notice it. On the other hand I replaced a headlight a few years ago because of a stonechip

cant be defected in a stock standard supercar haha but can go 10 times faster

you can be defected in a stock BA... i'm sure they'll find reasons to defect a stock supercar... and you'll probably cop it more due to the attention :P

I can't remember where I read this, but someone got defected for having a non-secure battery... apparently the stock brackets / clamps weren't good enough for them??

Yep. That's true. It's one of the things they checked on mine. Because I don't have a battery surround on mine, people presume it's just sitting there but it's bolted down tight

yeah, my uncle brought a VT SS a few weeks after they first came out. He was pulled over going home the day he got it, and yes, a canary because the battery clamps didnt hold the bettery secure enough.

That's fucken gay!

I've been thinking the same thing for years, it would be great to see the cops set up outside a shopping center like Chermside and check out every car that leaves. I bet any money they could defect every single car with >20,000km on it. You'd never see that because picking on "mum and dad" would generate such horrific publicity for the cops and QLD transport that people would pay for it with their jobs at the next election.

I've got a roadworthy licence, of the cars I inspect (all of them bog stockers, mostly still in warranty) only 1 out of every 10 passes without requiring work - it's unbelievable how many people drive around with illegal/defective cars.

That would be so much fun to do, setup outside a shopping centre and go over every car just like they do during a modified car sting. Dead serious look on your face, direct questions, no chit chat or conversation. Essentially treat every single soccer mum, grandma and john doe like they are a criminal. Throw the book at them for every single little thing that is wrong with the car.

Damn it I would love to see that.

I bet you would get all sorts of people getting upset and kicking up a stink, that's when you break out the handcuffs and arrest them. Send their kids to child protective services and see them in court. Shake up their world over a bald tyre or busted headlight. Hell yeah, see how it feels then?

We all know what they are like.
we all know they will fuk over anyone who has a modified car, regardless of condition.
We all know that piece of shit Camrys, magnas, etc will never get defected.

This the way the police work.
This is the way the general public see our roads being kept safe.

Maybe if more family cars were genuinely defected, things would change.

Except for my family! My folks think its crap they go round getting us if we arent doing anything wrong when there is a hell of alot worse we can be doing then enjoying our pride and joy. Fair enough if they get ya for being stupid on the roads.

Just warnings to clear out to get everyone moving away from area if its a problem I think is a fair enough deal rather then slapping defects on em all

Frost, hope you don't mind me plagarising you a bit here. Planning to send this text into the local paper in relation to an article titled "Hoon Terror".

Sir,
In relation to the lead article for the 12th of February’s Border Watch

I am a self-confessed car nut, I love performance vehicles, travelling at high speeds and I also love the smell of tire smoke. But in my self-confession there is a catch, I like it all legally, at the limited auto racing events throughout the south east.

You may be wondering why would someone school aged might be writing to you admitting their a car nut (or in many eyes, a “hoon”), practically putting themselves up for crucifixion by the community at large ? Because even though I love going fast and wasting money on fuel, I only like doing it in a safe legal environment, all other times I just like to drive my car. I like driving to the Mc Donald’s drive through and buying some cheese burgers, or the service station to put some overpriced fuel in, or cruising along a country road. I like driving and chatting to people who all share the same interest. Their love for cars.
As I see in the article many residents are upset about the level of “hoon” activity within their communities, commenting on the many “close shaves” they have observed and the speeding/drag racing that has been happening in the streets of Mount Gambier. I share their concerns for their community and the people committing these acts should be punished to the full extent of the law. The use of a motor vehicle on the road in my view is a privilege and not a right. But on the other hand, I have witnessed ignorance of police forces and the community regarding car enthusiasts. I’m not saying if Joe Blow rips a burnout in his hectic VL at the intersection of the main street let him go, by all means go impound his vehicle, fine him lots of dollars, and take his license away. He’s not a car enthusiast he’s a hoon. He would be one of the people who drive a near bog standard car and claims his car is quicker than a V8 Supercar.

More on the way car enthusiasts have been pressured. The senseless defection of a motor car over trivial things that have no bearing on safety of the vehicle and the vehicles around it, police officers randomly pulling people over to “have a look” even when no crime has been committed but yet other road users not fitting the "hoon" profile get by with unsuspecting cars with major defects (older resident with a car that hasn't been serviced since 1998 and needs wheel bearings for example). Why have these things been done to innocent people and their possessions? It’s a simple answer even highlighted in the article by Sandra Morello. As described by Ms Barton “On one evening this month in just 20 minutes I counted dozens of hoon cars on our street”, the labelling of a “hoon car”. What could be described as a “hoon car” Ms Barton? Big wheels? A high powered V8 engine? Blinding multi coloured lights? For those who couldn’t have foreseen, I have just described a many police cars. The point I am trying to put across is never judge a book by its cover so to speak. People driving around in modified cars cannot be automatically labelled a hoon and they should not automatically hammered by police for driving around in modified cars. As many people have said in history- innocent until proven otherwise.

Statistics provided by Senior Sergeant Hill have indicated 344 cars have been impounded or clamped in the South East. How he could be taking up such a devastating statistic is defies logic. Having the second highest level of impounding of cars in the state isn’t something to be proud of. In contrast- it shows that the existing methods of curbing hooning aren’t working. Simply taking away somebody’s vehicle will not make them a better driver. Simply taking away somebody’s license will not make them a better driver. Actually it makes them become bitter for our authorities. Only training in the use of a motor vehicle WILL make them a better driver. While the current process to obtain a license is adequate only the Provisional one test requires actual in-the-car driving- all else is purely theory on basic road rules.
A more direct approach could be done. Training days for learner drivers by auto clubs is one. Increased funding could be introduced to many of the car clubs throughout the South East that stage events to curb the need for hooning/ allow driving skills to develop. A legal way to drain the boy-racer out of a “hoon” in a constructive environment would befit many people in the community while reducing the risk of Mount Gambier/ South Eastern streets to be used as a racetrack. But, alas, in reality-grass root auto events are far and few in-between in the south east and indeed all of South Australia with costs of competing far beyond what many young people are able to afford.

Thank you for the time you took to read my letter Mr Editor, and for all of the community: keep safe on the roads.
Mr. Tristan Weston
