The wagon thread.

Postby Phillis » July 15th, 2009, 1:24 pm : [Sterling] Likes this post

So latley theres been quite an increase of wagon owners on the forums. which in my option, is pretty fkn cool. And since we've been growing quite a bit, we've also been hijacking other people buld threads to discuss wagon stuff.

So rather than keep hi jacking build threads, i thought id start a place where we can discuss E-Series wagons, post pics, planned mods and figure out new mods ect ect.

First up, ill get the ball rolling. The suspension in the ass off my car is terrible. It handles like a boat. Its currently got munroe gt shocks, factory leaf springs and 1 inch lowering blocks. What can i do to get it to handle better?

I tend to agree regarding the rear suspension.
my wagons much the same, i've got stock suspension in the back, stock shocks and stock leafs, with 2" blocks.
it used to scrub the mud flaps on the ground going around corners it was that bad.

my fix will involve airbags lol.

Wagon list!

Phillis - EF XR6
EFFalcon - Frankenwagon
BROCKYB8 - EF GLi
BLKPHN - AU Forte (?)
Commando - Candywagon

I love my floatyboat suspension! All you guys wanting lowered wagons are nuts. My list of proud achievements in the EF:

* Monday night, I found some firewood on the road. Back seats down & firewood loaded in teh back, Brocky style! My mudguards scraped :P
* Have camped in it several times (solo, and with company - not Kester yet), and it's a good "escape" to go to at a house party where you know you'll get no rest indoors.
* Great for road trips, its only downside is no cruise, but I CBF hooking it up.
* Have moved house using it, and its ass can swallow a couch. Just like Paris Hilton!
* Still haven't washed the cheese Dezza smeared on it after Glenmaggie. If I look closely at the cheese I can see EF tadpoles.
* Nearly got air crossing a raised culvert at 120.
* Apart from initial gas install issues, it's been extremely reliable & cheap to run, very un-E-Series
* I can infiltrate OzECruisers with it and win at their dyno/drag events.

lol! Slackness ftw

I'm regretting not buying my parent's old wagon. It was a 93' EBII GLi with factory manual. My parents bought it new, and traded it on a BFII Ghia late last year. The EB was a fantastic car. It was an 8 seater (extra 3 seats in the back) and it did the job carrying my large family around. They traded it at 280,000kms and it was still on head gasket #1. The only breakdowns were a couple of clutches, a snapped alternator belt, and when Ford Service got water in the dizzy. Other than that it was great. It's now at Darwin so it'll probably be bush-mechanic-spec in no time :(

Yeah, that would be cool. My eventual plan is to turn the EA into a project. Take it off the road and go nuts with it! I mean I've done a lot, but I can only do so much with a daily. Wagons ftw!

you dont go to a house party with intentions of staying for 'sleep'. or do you?

oarsome, we have a wagons list. nice! when we get a dozen members, wagon cruise

i went to pedders tonight and inquired into getting the ass stiffened up a bit and they set they could put better shocks in there and reset the springs AND get the stiffened. i can also get a rear swaybar made up, but it'll have to be a custom job. a standard one doesnt fit around an LSD. boo.

Depends what kind of party you're at. If people start breaking out the pillz, I call it a night, but being >0.05 means I'll stay in the car rather than drive home. Or, I'm just being a softcawk.

a standard one doesnt fit around an LSD

mine broke down this morning on the way to work  apparently a fuel pump, got a $40 taxi ride to work, $50 tow to my mechanic, and the bill for when he does the work, which should be tomorrow. just spent 300+ on fixing the heater tap and hoses and a service, now am up for more... she is quite the costly gal, but i love her lol

mechanic thinks my thermos may be on the blink too, i've heard that u can hook them up to a switch inside the cabin...true? and would it be a wise move to do such a thing?
nice work Phillis with the new thread, and yes definitely a wagon cruise should be on the cards! i'd love to see the frankenwagon, and all the others in person.

yeah, i smelt it too. but i brought a standard rear swaybar, went to pedders to have it installed and the ribs or whatever you call it on the outside of the diff housing were in the the way.

and LSD stand for limited slip differental. its where the energy goes from the drive shaft to the rear wheels. an LSD also means easier burnouts

John- what else have you got planned for the frankenwagon?

Ive decided mine wont be boosted. Its a daily, and as much as id like to have the first ef xr6t wagon, its a daily and other sources need my time and money more than the car. Ive got a cam, j3 chip and lpg tune planned, then she'll be done. Boo.
