How many V8 EL Fairmont Wagons were made

Hi, I'm hoping someone on here can help me. I've got a 97 V8 EL Fairmont wagon and I’m trying to get production numbers I’ve spoken to ford and they have given me a letter of verification to say its factory and what extras it was order with but they won’t tell me how many where produced.

I also last week when I had the engine covers off I found the original spec sheet that somehow got left on the intake manifold and was still there 12 years later(I was very happy when I found this) but still no production numbers.

I’ve had this car for about 12 months and I’m pretty sure it’s a rare one as I’ve never seen another I’ve seen 6 cyl but no v8's.

If anyone has any info on this it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Danny

Only Ford can help. They should be able to give numbers - I used to when I worked there.

Sundeep : Yeah thats what i thought but they said that they are unable to confirm the production figures for this car, so i dont know if there are any more or whether this was a special order 1 off kinda thing. I'm kinda hoping that there is someone on here that works at ford that can help me out

Wolf : I'll post some up soon i dont really have any good ones ill have to give a good clean and then take some more

here is some pics its dirty and raining but thats melbourne

It came factory with thr xr wheels and sports suspension, the only things i have done is lowered the back a bit more and removed the rear muffler and added a tip. Its a family car(ive got 2 kids and one on the way) so the wagon factor is good but i still get my v8

kickass wagon! very nice. a tickford kit would set it right off!

You mentioned you removed a rear muffler- is the the one just inside the rear bar? whats the exhaust note like and the cabin noise? im tempted to remove the rear muffler and replace it with a hotdog in my 6 cyl but im scared of a drone :(

Phillis : Thanks, the tickford kit does set them off, its just getting permission off the wife to let me spend money on my cars. as with the rear muffler yes the one just inside rear bar, and it does drone a bit, i like the note, its not to loud but its enough that people can still hear, my wife doesn't like it as it does drone but its my car not her's lol. If you are going to the mini meetup thing at f/g on the 1st sep i was prob going to cruise down so i can show you if you want

Vaga : there a great family car and i dont have gas on mine so i still have all the room in the back, you just load up the back put the bikes on the back and set cruise control.

Nice pick up mate! I

wouldn't even do anything to it cosmetics wise, just keep it looking mint and enjoy :drinks2:

If I had to guess I would say less than 100 would've been made..

Had a chat with red (regency??) V8 EL Fairmont Wagon on thursday night that i was next to at a few sets of lights. It was completely factory apart from exhaust and shift kit. Moral of the story is i know of at least 1 more than yours that was made!

If there are any, they will be in the country, theres a few floating around. Most have FTR's too :P

Id just slam it on the ground and leave it. Maybe Ghia moulds + interior?

G'day. Just joined here.
Was going to post a new thread on the same subject but diff model, but saw this thread and this post by Sundeep so I thought I'd just post here instead.

Does anyone know the best Ford email/phone specific to this sort of query? I'm in the process of buying a '97 Fairmont EL, will pick it up either this weekend or next. I wanted to find out how many '97 Fairmonts (straight 6) were produced in total. If I can find out how many were made in this colour (gunmetal grey) that would be even better. It's un-modified and I'm going to keep it like that, also only done 179,000 k's and has had 2 owners with full service history. It's in top nick. I last drove a '65 Falcon XP (20 years ago, yer I know I'm old) and ended-up selling it to some guy in Central Vic who wanted it to work on, that car was in orig condition though had been given a pretty hard life, not like this EL. He was really happy to have it come his way and I saw the value of having a car which was verging on vintage after having it for a long time and then seeing it go to someone who really appreciated finding it. I loved the XP so much and had so little trouble with it that I decided that my next car was also going to be a Falcon. After doing a load of reading on the Falcon history, the e-series shot out as the best car for me to think about getting, both in style and mechanical/features, and the info on the development and handling made the EL my final choice. I also see the EL as the last 'classic' Falcon body shape before the rounded roofline of the AU and following cars, which everything has now. In years to come I think the squarer, more conventional roof shape will set the classic cars aside from all the euro-styling which is making all makes and models appear like they're the same car. Same goes for the EL headlights, now they're all triangles and look like clown cars, give me a classic looking car any day. Anyway, my plan with the EL is to continue caring for it as it's been used to, drive it forever and then one day when I'm too old to drive anymore, sell it to a Ford fan who will appreciate the fact it's in great condition still (hopefully) and all in its orig factory state, alloys and all. By that time an EL with no mods and in orig condition will probably be a curiosity or a museum piece, if these forums are anything to go by anyway!

I wanted to find out how many EL Fairmonts were made, I can find the total EL population figure produced on the Fordfacts EL page, but nothing anywhere online for just the EL Fairmonts. I read here that Ford is the best place to go to ask, but if anyone has done this and knows a specific number or email to use to get to the right info quicker, then would appreciate the heads-up.

Cheers Guys,
Lee

As far as I know, the Discovery Centre historian in Geelong is the best source for obtaining specific numbers. If they don't know, probably no one does!

Discovery Centre, eh? Will drop them a line after the new year and see if they have info. Thanks Troutman. If anyone else has any suggestions on specific places/numbers to contact, by all means post 'em.
Cheers.

Funny, since I started looking at EL's out on the roads and also paying more attention to the Falcon models on either side as well, I've been seeing AU's more than anything. They're like, every 5th car I see.

Hey all, just another update there might be one less of these rare cars on the road, I’ve smashed mine pretty bad  and still waiting on the insurance to decide what’s happening with it, hopefully they let me keep it but it’s on the repairable write off registry now and I also got a canary 5 mins after the accident so the reg has been suspended as well, :banghead: what a day that was. It's pushed the wheel arch in about an inch.
Thanks to everyone for the info on the beast anyway

Yeah I was the only one in the car and no one else was involved so no one was hurt, I just fell asleep driving on the freeway on my home from work, woke up and saw a concrete wall (bridge) swerved and the back hit so I was very lucky, split second later I would have hit it right at the front or my door and that would of hurt.
I was always the one saying id never do that, I’ll never fall asleep but it happened so be careful people if you tired pull over

Shit...... that really does suck but it literally should be able to be fixed. From what i can see, Panel puller or another panel, new rear bumper, stop/indicator housing. Hope it all goes well and hopefully you get this back on the road ;)

thats ridiculous that the cops gave you a defect after an accident...
i'd write a letter to see if you can have that shit reversed or at least the reg reinstated, thats pretty unfair...

Tony : I should be able to fix the damage I know a couple of good panel beaters and they said they would help but it will be a long road to get it back on the road cause if it going in the shed its not coming out standard :good:

Misk : yeah I wasn't real happy about it and I’ve gone to the cop shop and spoke to them and they said that they could have put the car of the road then and there and fined me and charged me for reckless driving. So it’s one of those situations when it’s easier to suck it up and deal instead of making it worse. I didn't get a fine with the canary and it was only a minor for the panel damage but it had to go in for a full roadworthy and as my insurance company are taking their time I had no chance of getting it repaired and road worthy done on it in time

so you continued to drive after the accident and got pulled over and issued the canary? or the cops gave you the canary at the accident?

From fordmods:

1996 Fairmont sedans = 72
1996 Fairmont wagons = 30
1997 Fairmont sedans = 150
1997 Fairmont wagons = 68
In 1996 + 1997 it was a total of 222 for Fairmont sedans
In 1996 + 1997 it was a total of 98 for Fairmont wagons

Ford Falcon Fairmont 5.0L - 72 , but I dunno how many were sedans or wagons.

nstg8a : i was driving home from the accident they pulled me up about 2 kms from where it happened

Vegabass : it was just for the panel damage not for anything else
