Hi guys,

Came across this on another forum and was very suprised that a rotary parts shop getting into manufacturing of XY body shells. Phill has remade alot of hard to get parts for mazda's so this might be another project of his.

thread from other forum
http://www.ausrotary.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=176520

A quick run down;

- Apparently these guys have something to do with the xy shells
http://www.dynacornclassicbodies.com/gm_models.html

- May have to meet current ADR rules to be registered

- Looking about 15k for the shell and dont know if thats complete with doors, bonnet and boot lip

- Other body shells apparently being made are HK Monaro,EH Holden and GTR Torana.

If this is true then this should be very exciting as not only is it super hard to find a shell in good condition and want big dollars for it when u can buy something brand new.

seems like a bit of a waste.
half the joy of owning a XY is the fact that its rare and something with some stories/time behind it.

u have a good point as its an old car restored but not in this case and u make the stories as u go along with the build. Not everyone already owns a XY then rebuild as some people love them then buy 1 and rebuild it.

I can see alot of number jobs cruzing around LOL

On the other hand if you wanted an XY shape but to not feel guilty about cutting, welding, bending and adjusting everything to fit your chosen driveline (FG F6 with 6 auto or manual...) then taking it out and thrashing the shit out of it mercilessly, then this is the way to go.

I would personally prefer a remade one rather than an original for those above reasons :)

This.

It would be a great start for a American Style 'Pro tourer'

i think this is an excellent idea, perhaps it will stop people building GT reps out of every fukken XW and XY that is out there.

i'm pretty sure the joy is in buying a shitbox XW, turning it into an XY GT rep, then selling it for an inflated sum of money.

So there are still XWs out there that haven't become XY GT replicas?

yeah but they get advertised for sale as "XW - good for XY GT rep"

They're probably genuine XY GTs that have been stolen & parted out for $$$, then the "owner" couldn't get rid of the shell so they whacked cheap XW parts on & onsold it as "XW - good for XY GT rep"
