How well has it been serviced? I'd start with plugs and leads and proceed from there...

Maybe in guard mode. Is the engine light(BA) or the ETC light(BF) on? If it isnt that it could be blocked VCT OCV's (oil control valves). Is it blowing any black smoke or popping like the cam timing is out?

That would be my guess too. Get some carby clean / wd40 and spray it around the intake manifold gasket and see if the engines rom picks up. If it does, then your gasket it stuffed

When was the last time you cleaned the throttle body?
Could also be a coilpack

lol aftermarket - $140. genuine ford - $ your selling your body in st kilda for the next 5 years.

if feels like traction control (as in the way the car jolts) then its coils and plugs.

If it feels like it is missfirng its most likely a coil. Faulty coil normally wont come up on a self test. Best way is a power balance test on IDS (if you have access to one) to locate the cylinder. Pull the rubber boot that goes onto the spark plug off and look at the underside of the coil. There is a small square flat section on it. If the coil is dead, 90% of the time there will be white external leakage marks in this area.

An E series wouldnt do this. BA's are shit and common. Get an EA.

or...while youve got everything off replace it all anyway...i think when i pulled one of my plugs out it broke so its best you have spares or just replace em all anyway

Added protip: don't use non-genuine coils and throw out 5 perfectly good genuine ones.

ROLF agrees. E-series coils are superior due to the arrangement of the electrons and have more energy than 34 Delorians.

i have non-gen coils in atm, they are dooing fine so far. last ones were from factory they did about 160k's then died. i think thats pretty good.
any reason behind this? just interested to know..? also already done about 20-30thousand on the current coils.

Added protip: if one coil dies the other 5 probably aren't far behind

I took a punt on a non-genuine set last year and one died after 10k km's or so, so I threw them all out.

Edit: Also, it could be my imagination but the non-genuine set never felt 100% performance wise

They are electronic components, not brake pads. Replaced hundreds of these as they go. May have seen 5 of these come back for a second one.

im guessing you get good ones and bad ones. i got mine of eBay off some seedy guy in coburg. they may or may not be genuine and stollen.

Hopefully with the coil cover seal and rubbers that sit on top of the coils should solve the problem.
