Surging/Braking Down

Postby Michael (HYPOEB) » September 23rd, 2009, 4:31 pm

I didnt realy no where to post this so i thought i may aswell give it ago here.

i have abit of a problem,my car starts to surging in 3rd and 4th gear if you put your foot down (once it gets past 3500rpm)
if you back of a little bit it starts to take off again, but once you put the foot back down it starts surging again.
i've change the plugs and leads and theres no differents what so ever.

dose anybody have any idea what this could be? any help would be great thanks.

i don't think its plug related considering you said it did that before.

try fuel filter
failing that get a pressure gauge on your fuel rail.... walbro pumps are as reliable as a $2 hooker addicted to crack

Look at the pressure reg and TPS.

Im leaning towards the throttle position switch giving wrong readings to your ECU.

There's a fuel pressure gauge on the reg, so maybe keep an eye on that. Also, the plugs in it were pretty new, and I gapped them to 0.8mm, so it shouldn't be that.

Fuel filter was done maybe 2 or 3k ago as well if that helps.

Is it doing it under heavy load, or at light throttle as well?

this only ever happened once or twice with me under full load in 4th at around 3500-4000 so I never really thought much of it. I suggest that you have a look at the fuel pump.

Full load in 4th at 3500-4000 would be going pretty fucking fast. I'd say slow down and don't worry about it.

If you're not going to slow down, I'd be looking at fuel pressure as well.

haha its all good.
the plugs you gave me where different to the ones in the car (they were longer)
so i took them both down to my tuner and he said the ones in the car were just standard plugs and the ones you gave me were performance plugs. so it worked out for the best in the end.

there are some truly hopeless "performance mechanics" out there. Just curious, what were the brand of the plugs that came out of the car and were they even gaped properly.
