im curious to know how tmu/ vic roads determins a major defect from minor?
is there a set of rules or guide lines that any one knows of?
is this avalible to the public to veiw.
basically 2 outta the 3 times ive been defected ive had majors
1st time was minor i got done for green LED park lights and 1 tyre wasnt much good (got booked for 15km/h over)
2nd was major 1 real bad tyres on back (random breath test)
3rd was major 2 tyres just in markers, center brake light out, hand brake not "tight" enough, and head lights to bright, exhaugst to loud. (went slow off lights and looked suspect as apparently)
i think i may have got a cop in a shit mood 3rd time he went right over the car, inside and out.

I think people get pulled over randomly because of how they look. Look at Wilson he'd be in the top 5 for the most illegal e-series on this site, and you never hear of him getting "randomly" pulled up.

Maybe it has something to do with what you look like, and the way you drive? Do you stare at the cops when you see em?

mate, honestly it does depend on you and the officers attitude towards it. be respectful and dont try to get out of it by talking. I had around 6-8 canarys on my old eseries in around 5 months
but just try these things
- keep the car ultra clean, engine bay, interior the lot
- Dont drive on rims front, stockies back
- If you've got choppies the bouncing will give it away straight away
- If you see police just drive normally dont turn down your stereo or take off slow ( just dont recomend chirping into 2nd tho)

usually anything tyre, suspension related will incur a major defect. Having lights out etc is so easy to fix, you'll notice the drop in attention just doin these things

major/minor is at the discretion of the cop...

they could be mad as cops only wanting to make your car safer for your benefit... they give you a major which needs a full RWC so they know you fix it. or could give u a minor so you just fix that little bit thats wrong... up to the cop. they also dont have to give you a fine. ive been defected twice.. only my minor i got fined... TMU copper in noble park for too low versus regular cop getting me for too low in healesville... TMU gave me minor + fine, healesville copper gave me major needing roady + no fine. he didnt want to punish me just make my car safer

so they can fine you for it as well... how much?
i dont mind if it to make to car 'safe' and i suppose thats what its about.
any one been done for hub adapters Or spacers before?
never run stockies on rear, the car is imaculate 99% of the time... dont turn stereo down??? what about noise polution?

I ran 16' inch stockies with hubbies for a while and only sapacers on the front and a TMU officer came over and asked about my shortened diff due to the wheels sitting under so far at the back, i was like "WTF?" then he started asking about toe and camber and shit on my wheels asking had i hit a gutted doing burnouts ?

bentls is right tho major/ minor is totally at the officers discretion, as is the the fine $187 for driving a vehicle contrary to victorian road standards lol I'm pretty sure i funded around 2-3kms of eastlink lol

yeh think about it from a cops perspective their job is to observe people...

if they see a e series hooning along next thing they on the anchors or taking off uber uber slow with a loud exhaust its pretty obvious... its hard to tell how fast cars are going but if something suddenly slows down its pretty obvious... its also fairly easy to see people lean forward to turn their stereo down... or obvious to see people on their phones even tho they think they are getting away with the perfect crime cos their phones arent at their ears etc.... its pretty obvious that person really doesnt wanna get pulled over... maybe they are hiding something, maybe they stole the car, maybe they just did a smash an grab... the cops arent gonna know till they pull you over, which could then make a defectable item very obvious....

cops arent as stupid as u think, they are gonna notice shit like that its what they are trained to do and what they do nearly every working day of their life...

If you see a Highway Patrol car, 9/10 you will get a major defect. If it's just the normal van or car it's up to your attitude and the discretion of the officer.

still yet to get pulled up since its been boosted (other then when i drove it without front bar on)

huge part of not getting dicked is the way you talk to cops. and not driving like an idiot in the wrong places.

in my history iv raced an un marked car in my ED
done a skid, speeding and apparantly tail gating and been pulled over and let go in the xr8 (pre charger)
pulled over with front bar off. intercooler hanging out front. no plate on the front and let go
came out of a driveway in the xr8 and kicked out and scared the shit out of a cop on his way home.
kicked out sideways around that same cop. got nothing but a bit of abuse at the next lights (wanker deserved the finger my mate gave him. he stopped in the middle of a main road right next to me while i was trying to change lane and waiting for him to pass.)

also on weekend of GOR last year alone
friday night pulled over for slightly speeding and pulling into a street really suddenly (didnt realise the wanker tailgatting me was a cop. pulled in fast so i didnt get hit)
the sunday passed some cars on GOR on the way home. probably doing 150 by the time i got past. apparantly cop came out to get me but cars came past him and i was long gone so he wouldnt have caught up.
then closer to home. came out onto the highway sideways. cop came over median strip to come get me. i had to stop at a set of lights. but luckily a 4wd and trailer cut across 3 lanes and stopped in middle of turning lane so cop had to stop with him..

and to this day STILL no fines or anything.
im the luckiest **** ever.

when i list it all like that i suddenly realise how many stupid things iv done

coppers choice depending on how un road worthy the car is

if its majorly un roadworthy (blower out bonnet, mini tubbed shit like that) they often give it a major purely so you have to get a full road worthy

hence you have to change the vehicle a shit load and might just take it off the road.

Depends on the cop, I got a major for being too low, so did a few others that night, thats it. Good thing they didn't pick up on the turbo's though!!

ive been picked up once and defected, got a minor for too low and a brake/tail light out,
luckily i got off for it being too loud, tint too dark p plate not visible rego sticker out of date (but was paid) bald tyres and im sure couple of other things. i was super polite blew 00 on the breath test and i think i told her about the rear light so luckily got off with a minor and no fine, so pretty lucky
i agree with what people have said just gotta be nice as possible and hope u get a nice copper.

I never say anything i just agree and say nothing smart and they usually give me my speeding fine or yell at me and leave. 2 weeks ago i got done sideways and the copper came up abusing me telling me he's impounding my car for the second time i just sat there and waited and he came back saying he couldn't be fucked cause he just knocked off. Abused me more and told me that i was getting a summance in the mail for careless driving and drove off on me. But out of at least 15 pull overs, brethos etc my car has been far to low and sometimes bald as tires and never had a comment on them purely cause i don't argue just apologize and let them do what they where intending.

as far as i can tell it all come down to how u talk to the cop
a mate of mine got pulled over with me and another mate in his car ( holden commy VS 5speed, exhaust. 3.9lsd ss induction ......)
the cop saw my mate drop the clutch and skate down the street and then pulled us up in the next street.
we copt a minnor cannary for , too low ( measured 5cm off the floor) and red parkers no fine for either, or points taken even for the burnout
so yer as long at ur not a complete dickhead towards them there ok
on the other hand another mate of mine has been pulled over with smoke still pooring out the guards in this vt LS1 ( on the new green P plate laws) and been a complete smart ass towards them and they say nothing and they let him off with a lecure.

Respect gets you places, simple as that. Last time I got pulled over (almost had a head-on with an undercover cop) he gave me a lecture, I told him the truth (there was no excuse or justification for going quick in a carpark). I was honest and upfront, didn't try to hide anything, I got let off with just the lecture.

Yeah that works but at the same time you can happen to almost head on a cop who just got divorced and you got no chance of getting out of it and he just wants to put your car on the road and spit in your eye. So in that case just crawl into the fetal position and stay there until he gets a saw arm beating you with his hight stick.

i was driving south on mitcham road just before canterbury road in the supra...

saw a cop sitting in a side street with the laser, i was over by a little bit, shit my pants and saw him looking at me as i drove past... so i ducked up the next road and it was a fucking no through road.. so i did a ubolt and sat there for a little bit.... cop drove past... im like fuk.. so i wait a little bit more then drove out and kept going the way i was going (so i would've been behind him).. i cross canterbury and had to do a u turn not much further.. im sitting at the median waiting to do a uturn and the **** drove past me again going the other way..

I ended up driving down a side street and i didnt see him again. i was packing myself haha

He was probably laughing at you having some fun
