car accidents? out comes?

Postby lpg-092 » November 27th, 2009, 12:19 pm

ssooo,......

last night i was on the way home from work went through an intersection and another driver just plain turned in front of me! granted its a pretty busy intersection (lygon st & cemetry east rd) i hit his festiva spun him around and dinted just his L/H rear quarter. he's car has pretty minor damage and he was able to jump back in and drive off, the VP on the other hand did not fair so well,

Just wondering as I HAVE Insurance and he does NOT (he has also already addmitted he is at fault) has anyone been in this same situation? shit situation as it is! how they went about getting there car fixed and sorting it out, unfortunatly i dont have full comp. :(

Put in a claim and let them handle it. That's what you pay for!

You shouldn't need full comp if he is uninsured, you should have UMD/UME extention on your policy.

Yep as Wayne said..

Did you grab all his details? Name, address, contact number, rego etc?

Which insurance company are you with?

Plus always write down the other drivers details yourself by copying them off their licence. Don't ask them what their details are verbally. I know people that have been screwed by not doing that.

Since he is at fault go and report the accident to the police and give them his contact details. They will contact him for a statement and give you an incident/report number which you need to pass on to your insurance company.

Why report it to the cops? No-one was hurt. No laws were broken. Do you have to do that in QLD?

Yeah i went to make a report, they said that considering no one was hurt no report was needed to be made. I got a photo of the dudes license and the police officer was good enough to confirm all the details were correct and told me he wasnt a suspended driver or anythin.

I'm with RACV they said i have some form of 'un-insured drivers claim' built in to my policy andbasically i just have to get him to call them up and tell them he is in the wrong, The fact no body stopped to be a witness let alone help me push my car out of the intersection kinda sucks as im worried he will just say i was at fault and it becomes a civil matter. :-(

If the damage exceeds $2000 you do. I always report it anyway now, I didn't report it once because it was a minor accident but the other (at fault) driver went and reported it and told a heap of porky pies. So it turned into a bit of a he said she said thing. Now I always report it, since it's not hard to go over $2000 in damage and damage is pretty subjective.

ok malakai so you ring up an assessor first then file a police claim...

oh wait no the assessor just finished he thinks it can be fixed for $1800 so you can hang up on the police now...

Well i guess all i can hope for is honesty from the other party as i would much rather have my car than it be written off as its worth more to ME going than what ever they will write it off for, even worse racv dont let you buy the car back they just take it!

I think informing the police especially if they dont have to come to the scene just covers your own interests rather than just letting it go.
