Well my car got broken into over the weekend and the forensics have been out to search for fingerprints and all. Just wondering if any of you guys know of the best way to get rid of the stuff? The forensics chick told us to just wipe it off with a clean cloth but its not working too well, any suggestions would be welcome as i'd like to get my car looking less like a crime scene before work tomorrow...

Can't you just wash the car?

I got told using water to get it off isnt the best idea, whether thats true or not I dont really feel like testing. Thought I may as well try here first to see if anyone knew of a better way,

Soapy water?....It's just fine chalk dust.

yeah, fine chalk dust gets into any tiny little imperfection on the clear coat and it'll stand out like dogs balls. i had my steering wheel in my old VK fingerprinted, and i just left it on there. day-to-day use gets rid of it

having had to detail cars at work that have been stolen and had the whole fingerpront thing done, i can tell you that a normal car wash doesn't get it of.

You'll need to polish your car, im assuming its the one in your avatar, a darker colour doesn't show it up as much.

At work we usually give the cars a buff, and get any parts missed but the buff with a hand polish, sometimes having to use a 'cutting compound' to get it of, prepsol helps aswell. It all depends how long the dust has been on it, if its been wet and left out in the sun etc... and thats just the outside...

Inside should be easier, try some interior cleaners first and if that doesn't work a mild soapy scrub should.

Luckily they decided not to do the interior because my car had the least contact and we had to drive it last night anyway. It was broken into early friday morning and forensics only got there around lunchtime today, so it hasn't been on there too long but its been in the sun ever since. But I will keep that in mind for when I can afford to get some cleaning gear. Thanks.

just the same as removing any contaminants, start with the weakest less abrasive product and work your way up until ypu dind something to take it off. Id start with a basic polish by hand.
