pre owner meeting

Postby holmsy » October 28th, 2007, 3:37 am

well i was out and about in town (geelong) tonight. and want d you know i come back to my car to find somone taking pics of it with a camera phone. so i did the smart ass thing and made the alarm beep at him. then he sees me and just goes. do you own this. this used to be my car. so of course tells me about some of the damage it had when he traded it in and how it used to smoke for him as well like it is doing now.
discovered his mechanics wer useless and im pretty sure they tried to fix a blown gasket by chucking some sealant at it. so iv learnt a bit more of the history of the car. he also saw the eseries sticker and was happy to know it went to somone that appreciates the car.
was interesting and random at the same time.

just woundering if anyone else has had any encounters like this with past owners? obviously not the ones you know you bought it off.

I kinda did the opposite :P

I chased someone down the street (on foot, T-1000 style) when I saw my old XE cruise past. 500m later he pulled over and looked scared, which was funny considering he was 3x bigger than me. On to the history of the sale of my 1st car:

I kinda got stooged by a "mate" at the time, I was wanting to offload it since I'd bought the EB, and he said he'd buy the XE for a grand because he'd "always liked it & wanted to keep it in top condition". Sounded like a great proposal to me!

He said he'd put a $200 deposit on it & pay $100 each week for the next 8 weeks. No problems, I thought, since he was a mate who I'd known for a couple of years & he only lived 5 mins down the road from me. At the time we were regularly hanging around getting shitfaced, playing poker, playstation, etc. so I thought things were going pretty good.

Problem is, I (he) lost contact, the money didn't come in, and he'd decided he didn't want it anymore and requested that I take it back and give him the $200. Fcuk off! After a LOT of pissing and moaning I got the rest of the money back (over several months), but I'd learned he'd flogged off the XE to some random almost straight away... for $2k.

Anyway the car must've gone through a few sets of hands until this dude I spotted had it. It was pretty clean and had some grandpa stuff added (bonnet protector, sunvisor, extra mirrors, etc) and he said it was only used to travel 10kms to work & back each day. So at least my first car got a nice retirement, which is more than the EB will ever get

My mates kingswood broke down one day. We were trying to organise some belts for it so we could go home.

This dude comes up and goes hey I think I used to own this then starts describing little things about it like a little jesus sticker on the dash etc etc.

He owned the car 20 years ago.

We were driving my car down the freeway a few months ago and some guy in a convertable drove past and waved at us. He looked familiar and then I realised it was the guy I bought the car off! Think he noticed it from the dint in the drivers rear door that his wife did. Lol hmm wonder what he thought of the pink mobil?

After I sold my first car I used to see it all the time until my brother sold it to Sundeep and they wrecked it and sent it to Sims Metal
My second car I see a couple of times a month since my Mum now owns it :)
My third car I still see around a fair bit. More often than not it's sideways when I see it :P

Back when I had my 2L Escy, I was filling it up one afternoon and this dude comes up and starts telling me he owned it and all about it. Told him I bought it from a yard and it had no sound system, the battery was too small and no-one could get the wheel alignment right. Then he told me he had a decent sound system and a heavy duty battery when he traded it to the yard, and it had been in a smash which kinda shortened the left side of the chassis a smidge.
