Annoying Problem

Hey Guys i have a 1992 EBII which has started to play up and was wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem and hopefully fixed it.
First of it would stall (more like cutting out sudenlly) while driving, normally up a hill and not really under load, then would not start for ten or so minutes. The next weekend it went for a 400Km+ trip with no problems averaging 30mpg then the next week it stalled several times and and after 10-30mins was fine and started again. This was just annoying till one day it wouldn't start at all and had to be towed home. I heard that it might be the hose to the MAP sensor which i replaced which fixed the problem... for about a month. Next the fuel pump, filter and relays were replaced but the problem reappeared so i handed it over to the mechanic who found a loose conection on the distributor, and it ran fine until this weekend when it tried to start but sounded as though it was back firing and ran really rough then cut out, so i tried again and it was increadibly rough but didn't get to idle. I heard of a guy who had a similar problem in an EL and his started when he bashed the centre of the dash, so after 30mins i gave it a go and it started perfectlly and ran great, next time as well. Now it is a toss up if it will start or not.

This is the most frusterating thing if anyone has any ideas i would be greatfull.

nope it is pre-smartlock, and apparently there is a solenoid under the dash which works when you bash it

The under dash bashing is usually for the Smartlock equipped E series. I'll take a stab in the dark and would say that it sounds ignition related, possibly a TFI or coil on it's way. Don't hold me to it though.
