BA/BF, how much coin (roughly) to get 300rwkw

Postby old_mate » April 7th, 2010, 10:47 pm

ok, have seen a couple of BA mkII XR6T's around now for `15K, manual trans...how much coin to get one to run 300rwkw and last? I know the later ones are the ones to get for the F6 goodies, I was actually looking at buying a F6/G6E however the wife has decided she wants kids sooner than later and I have permission to buy whatever the fark i want as long as it's a sub 20k proposition, has room for a baby capsule and such. So just seeing whats out there...

...on the v8 front, i couldnt go past a VX SS with mods or a VY SS, just not sure i could spend money on a Holden. So wish the Boss was as cheap and easy to crank HP out of as the chev :(

If I done it, and didn't want anymore than 300rwkw i'd go a monza cooler, 42lb injectors, edit, better air filter and a fuel pump just to be safe. I remember Rips' BA had ~300rwkw and he had the above mods except the fuel pump, he also had a typhoon exhaust but can't remember if the dump pipe was standard or not? Pretty sure it was some 3.5 or 4" one.

Anyway, all those items if bought second hand (inc a sniper tune which should be $6-700 and a bigger dump pipe if needed) can be had for under $2k, i'd snap up tristans exhaust, I think he only wants $200 for it now!

But then you have to worry about the clutch, I think a malwood option 3 is something like $1500, so you'd have to budget that in too.

EDIT: Forgot about valve springs on the BA motors....add that to the list, will be a fair bit in labour. Not sure exactly how much.

get a BF if you can afford it.. but sub 20g is BA money so..
valve springs
injectors
flash tuner + tune
hi flow cat
cooler of some sort.

so around 3g? or could be alot higher depending if you do the work yourself, which cooler, etc. or lower if second hand bits are used.

and as above, clutch won't like it either.

Usually do actuator when you free up the exhaust and inlet piping too much.

F6 exhausts are the same as XR6T. BF's have a different dump/cat.

actuator should be ok with a high flow cat, but probably not with a new dump etc.
my car has stock turbo, actuator, exhaust... an a hi flow cat.

Yeah I didn't know if there was a difference either, the wanker that sold rips' his car was the biggest **** head around, and he said it had typhoon "upgraded" exhaust so I thought it may be different.

Plenty of this kind of stuff on the XR6T forums.

When you look at getting a manual you are instantly going to be forking out $1500 for a good clutch. Sometimes you get lucky and score a good second hand one for cheap. I've seen used AP Racing F6 clutch go for $250, and used Mal Wood kit go for $700.

Then instantly factor in your flash tune which is around $1500, or $700ish for a sniper (in Vic).

Then just your standard shit, cooler, injectors, fuel pump and maybe chop out centre muffler. I know F6 boys running 300+ on stock cooler kit or stock exhaust (either have decent kit of one or the other).

They go alright stock, you should just get a ZF BF with a tune and leave it.

Have you considered just buying one of the million out there already modified by the previous owner? Ditto for the GenIII, you almost have to go out of your way to get a stocky these days.

Be prepared for transmition failure with a mk1 BA, auto and manual they just don't like power!
Strive for perfection in everything we do. Take the best that exists and make it better.
When it does not exist, design it. Accept nothing nearly right or good enough.
