Car hoons will have their prized cars crashed, crushed, filmed and posted on YouTube if a daring NSW government plan goes ahead.

In the latest attempt to rid the streets of speeding drivers, Premier Morris Iemma is planning to not only confiscate cars, but shame the hoons before a worldwide audience on the internet.

With the driver forced to watch, the vehicles will first be smashed under RTA crash-test conditions.

Then, the cars will be crushed into scrap — with the whole process filmed and posted on the web.

"Car hoons engage in potentially lethal, property destroying, anti-social behaviour," Mr Iemma said in a statement.

"We're turning the tables. We'll destroy their property - but do it for the right reasons."

Police Minister David Campbell said film of the cars being destroyed would be publicly released.

"Video footage of these once-prized possessions being turned into splintered, twisted scrap will be the clearest message yet to hoons that we're serious about stamping out their behaviour and saving lives in the process."

The comments come after a weekend when police confiscated four cars whose drivers were allegedly racing on suburban Sydney streets.
Political pressure to tackle habitual dangerous drivers has swelled since elderly couple Alan and Judith Howle were allegedly killed by street racers in St Marys in July.

Last month, John Howard announced plans to install $550,000 worth of surveillance cameras in the Penrith area to tackle street racing.

Should we start a YouTube thread for these vids???

Sounds like a pipe dream. Taxpayers will back it until they realize what it will cost.

Cops aren't the ones transporting the cars around but.
Towies are just doing a job, and they love a bit of cash as much as anyone else :)

Yeah it's a great idea, just watch as people race off and try evade police when faced with the prospect of having their pride and joy destroyed for spirited driving.

A well thought out plan indeed.

Gee....I can't imagine how many people would try to do a runner if they knew they might be loosing their car if they get caught - I know I'd rather stove mine into a pole while attempting to get away just out of sheer determination not to let those feckers get their grimy mitts on it.

The number of high speed chases (and consequent high crash rate that results from people running from the cops) will increase tenfold if these laws get intruduced.

Govt FTMFL.
