New Import Laws!!!

Effective Immediately, the Australian Government has decided it will restrict the importation of modified cars built prior to 1989.

Hmmm...
Earlier tonight, my family and I had a HUGE wog(greek) dinner, consisting of a slab of pastichio with all the trimmings (KRISTOS - you know what I'm talking about! It's like a thick and chunky lasagne times'd by ten!), PLUS a roast, a bit of my mom's famous pasta salad and some corn on the cob... Then, I TOOK A DUMP OF ALL DUMPS!!! And, while I was on the "throne", my missus walked by and said my SH!T "smelled better than what the government was dishing out"!

Here's a release from the ASRF(Australian Street Rod Federation) on the matter:
http://www.asrf.org.au/docs/Import-Bulletin-001.pdf

And in related news, they were talking about this GFC (Global Financial Crisis) having an affect and that's why collectables are losing their value.
For the related article:
http://www.carsguide.com.au/site/news-a ... alue_drops

NOW, isn't that a fukkin coincidence?!?! "They" blame the GFC for the "collapse in values". This is the big-scum-sucking-rich corporate executives who earn over a couple of mil a year, who work for the banks, of all places... who buy the rare GTHO Phase 3s, and the A9X Toranas that have a special one off factory option what makes them so rare the average blue collar community have never seen them. The same ones who keep them in their 10 car garages yet deny the hard working man the chance to get his family a loan to buy a house! It's those greedy fat muthafukas that have a bit of a sooky lala to their neighbours in parliament, so they can go and do something idiotic like put a ban on classic imports?! C'MON!

And from another forum...

It's just crazy how the law is being interpreted and how they are justifying their position.

Get this, a 66 Mustang that has mag wheels. Gets rejected as a pre-89 car. As it has been modified (wheels) it gets listed as manufactured in 2010 and it doesn't meet 2010 ADRs so gets rejected. yet someone can bring in a stocker and puts mags on it post import and all A.OK.....

Guy landed a 50 mercury before the laws changed, has a 350 and a 2" chopped roof, he had tons of paperwork inc documents to say mods done in 1985 (pre 89). They still rejected it and said "we don't believe you". After 5 weeks he final got approval, but get this they approved it as a 1985 Mercury. So now to get it registered he has to pass smog...

This is the start of a long and slippery slope for our hobby. Once they ban importing modified cars where modified is basically ANYTHING but worse there is no definition so they just make it up as they go....you can bet they will start looking at local modified cars and star banning everything.

Already state Govts have started removing some state legislation and given over to fed rulings on certain mods.....

This is direct attack on our freedom of our hobby. They claim our cars are not safe and play the violin heart string tugger that it's all about saving lives.

In the past 10 years, how many people have been killed in modified cars...genuine modified cars, versus how many to speed and fatique in every day run of the mill cars.

Oh and on safety, I wanted to bring in a 61 Buick with disc brakes and new rims and tyres. Guess what not anymore....now I can only bring in one that runs 50 year old 4 wheel drums and cross ply pizza cutters.....but at least it won't be modified so it MUST be safer !!!!!

Fn ridiculous....

Be glad that you can import them at all even in standard form. There is a certain model of car that I would love to import but can't because it's not on 'the list' at all. To get one it would have to be a personal import which means I have to have owned, garaged and had it registered in another country in my name for 12 months before I can get it bought over here and registered. All because they sold the shitbox version here under a slightly different brand with a lesser engine specification. For that reason it will never be added to 'the list'.

You make a good point about the false excuses they make for taking this stance. It is bullshit indeed.

How doe's this affect, cars such as drag cars, I.E Top Fuelers etc. alot of the big guys here bring chassis in from the states, or say you bought a 66 impala that was already built as a drag car, that can clearly be seen as a drag car, would they still stop you from importing it?

This shit is fucked, should suss out NZ at least you can have a Awesome streeter over there.
