All wreckers should have what's called a Police book Phillis. When they purchase a vehicle to dismantle it has to have VIN, Rego, km's etc...all recorded down. So when you go in there to pick the car up, ask is they can give you the reg of the vehicle the motor came from. Failing that, tell them to jot down the ENG number on the invoice because you have to notify Vicroads of a motor change with the new ENG number.
