The owner of the 8.7 second EF out of WA is telling all about his car on fullboost forum. Some tasty info for those so inclined.

Good to see an owner of a fast E series sharing his info!!!

wow what a shit fight till the owner got on there and said who does what ra ra ra still a very tough car and proves that with the power that 4LTR-JET is making, that car should run low 8's once he gets it sorted and maybe a powerglide :D

Hiboost is aiming for 8's, he's just trying to perfect the combo to get it there.

The posts from the owner and that torque converter guy were a good read, rest was typical forum crap.

That's what I miss about having TUFED6 on these forums, he'd always post up good info, and was willing to help!

Thats cos Gonzo, the torque converter guy, is an absolute champ and a genius when it comes gearboxes etc...

Its the reason I waited about 4months for him to return back to perth to build my TH400... Hes the best in the
business.... Wish he'd pointed me in the right direction with my turbo from the start...

Yeah it seems like it! Keen to see what the GO is with using a chev torque converter with a powerglide in a eseries, that sounds interesting.

Krisis: Dunno ay :(

The imput shaft in powerglide converter is 17 spline while the T400 is 30 spline...
My son's C4 has a VN Comodore converter..

What other convertor are you going to use with a chev box?

No shit sherlock.

I was just wondering if you could use a off the shelf chev convertor with that flex plate mod he was talking about. Would be alot cheaper than getting a custom one made up to suit.

For the record can I say that the immaturity displayed by what appears to be BOTH CAMPS is disappointing because it undermines what is otherwise an extremely good forum. If you guys want to argue like children then please keep myself or my car out of it! It is a pity that I was not informed because I feel the original arguement was a reasonable one in which video footage or "hard evidence" was requested but not delivered! Someone should have asked me! I am doing my best to email the administrator some of my most recent taped runs (I am almost computer illiterate!) as well as my best timeslip which is 8.728s at 157.89mph. For the record my car weighs 1444kg (I never said it was a full weight street car!) and did make 747rwhp on Ovaboost's DynoDynamics chassis dyno which is hopefully a significant underestimate of its power? It does not use nitrous, runs on Roo16 and now uses a ported-version of an ED intake manifold. As many of my friends will agree, I am forever trying different combinations, and hence the confusion! It ran mid 9s with the T04Z and now 8s with the GTK-1000. I hope this helps!!! p.s. Rick McDowell has recently done an article of the car as it is now which I believe will be in Extreme Fords.

That's a bit of a surprise, I would have expected a plenum or something.
Rollin wrote:Does anyone know where you can get that abrasive flow porting shit done? I'd be interested to see what that costs...factory manifold FTW!

I suppose this is correct then

They use things like chev converters purely for the case and the diameter.
Most 3500 hi stalls from the old days were 4 cyl trimatic converters with new modded internals.
The one from my capri was an 8 inch, originally a Ford Laser case.

Yes especially if you can score a mild convertor that someone has upgraded from cheap. I'm doing this at the moment with a Th350 behind my LS1. CHEAP convertors for TH350 to normal chev but hell dear for Th350 to Lsx

Yes tmk they are 10" which is about right for 3000 converter ???
Big block converters are up around 11"...
--------------------------------------------------------
What I found in that thread ..
Turbo 4.0 engines put out masses of torque ... The MPH is often low on these engines [compared to E/T] YET the E/T is low ..
The calaulators are mainly set up for N/A or supercharged engines..
Turbo engines with decent set up and tune, gearing make "HEAPS" of torque...
The quick way these engines down the 1/4 is get the engine loaded as quick as possible.. Which an auto does. Esp a Powerglide..
The ladder bar rear suspension helps BIG time with 60 Ft times ...
If I read it right the E.B manifold has been ported between each runner..
This is done on Edelbrock V8 manifolds where they shorten each tunner and makes plenum larger as a result.. If I read it correctly...
So there's two majer mods that not too many have done..
Which is common practise if it was a Torana etc..

lol Hiboost, i think you're spot on there.

Hard to say a plenum is a waste of time when its being compared to modified manifold that is pretty much an 'upside' down plenum.

lol very shifty!
interesting though, i wonder when a complete standard manifold was last used.
really without seeing one of those close up pics anyone would think its 100% standard
i wonder whats been done to the insides..

Exactly right on the flanges (runners cut in order to port entire length!) but plenum is still standard with a new throttle body-flange welded in place of original.

i was reading that thread from the start and thought it was shit or maybe just the people involved. dude's get out all the calculations out, it couldn't run that mph, it couldn't do it with that power. fullboost mod said he recieved a time slip and they still kept on about it. he ran the number's good on him. glad it isn't like that here. my 2 cent's..

Funny thing is over here, everyone knows about the "dentist" who's been running his EL for years... He even tows
it sometimes with a supercharged EL xr8  .. Everyone who has spoken or met Rod has nothing but positive things to say
about him; even my old man has spoken to him about his setup at the plex before. Ask a question about his setup
and he'll tell you everything you want to know: he doesn't bother keeping any secrets...

Note: my comments above are not having a sneaky go at anyone at all.

Huh ? competition ? what, where ?
competition on most neons ?
competition on who can do the quickest search ?

if it's to drag race best you work out where you are located and speak to your local track.

Close, I was in-country overseeing the running of my "operation".

Great thread on fullboost, lots of interesting info.

Even though the guy is using a "modified" EA-D inlet manifold, I don't think the modifications would add up to much- you wouldn't be able to change the shape/size/volume that significantly in my opinion. The big throttle body would make the biggest difference but the rest of it is probably just tidied up.

The other part that I thought was interesting is that he is still using a standard AU main girdle.

No doubt the car is making heaps of power, but the reason its so fast is because its a well sorted combo- refined through literally years of development.
