FBT being wrecked on AFF

Postby private9 » July 22nd, 2010, 7:21 pm

Hey all,

Just thought I'd post up a link to this for those that no longer venture to AFF, it's an NL FBT that's being wrecked and seeing as some of the stuff on it is mega rare, thought I'd put it up here:

http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11303469

Such a pity though, I think even I might feel a tinge of guilt wrecking that!

Justin.

Bit stupid wrecking the whole car just because the motor's out and in pieces.

I tried to save it, didn't get a response.

Good luck to him.

Around the 10-15-year-old age is when models like this are at their cheapest. When XY GTHOs were about that age, they were only worth a few thousand dollars.

In other words, I too disagree with this destruction. :glare:

He wants too much for the complete car. It'd only be worth about $10k with that many kay's and a non-matching numbers motor (prob wont matter now, but maybe in future by a longshot). That, and it's got 230km on it.

If he has looked after it as well as the last owner body wise and interior I do not doubt it is worth $7K, I think the last owners name was Daniel and went under a similar name in most forums.
I want a lot of the parts he has for sale, my biggest issue is it is sad to see a limited edition car which is also a "worthy limited edition" (I keep wanting to post abuse at him), back in its day 195kw, 405nm, excellent suspension and brakes, unlike many other limited cars which are mainly a show bag, full of crap you could bought yourself and wheels looked to be painted with gold frosting. If we had to spare cash we would buy it, clean it up, replace anything not original and put it away for Concourse days etc, my missus is a evil Holden girl and even she couldn't believe someone could do this, we started thinking of the reasons; messy divorce, his Mrs hates it and is posting this up, drug habit. I went with the last one due to it being a FBT.

The FBT isn't fast by todays standards but it wasn't to shabby in its day, especially against any Statesman produced at the time and a much sweeter handling car as MacPherson struts should be left in what they were originally designed for, cheap small cars.
This car is a limited edition, anyone owning one should respect it and keep everything either original or keep those parts in storage, yeah it won't have the GTHO collective value but there are plenty of cars out there that never had any real limited edition or race history which are now worth a mint, HQ onwards Monaro's are a classic example, nothing special in "any" terms but worth a mint now, pre HQ I could understand.

Best of all the FBT does not need the loud exhaust to hide the piston slap noises and the wrong firing order sickness. :epicfight: A bit of tongue in cheek there :yahoo:

Well, well, what a nice little discussion here.......seems I am the 'tard' who is wrecking it, and yes it's to fuel my drug addiction.

A little insight as to why I wrecked the car rather than fixing it might let you sleep a little better at night. Back in April of last year it overheated due to a blocked radiator and cooked itself. This was not while I had it, was a mate, and no it was not Daniel who had FBT-04, this is build number 40. I have only had it in my posession for the last few months. It was looked at, heads were cleaned up and due to the damage on the bores from expanding pistons, to rebuild the bottom end to keep all original part numbers I was quoted $3500. Admitedly I could of slapped in a standard engine for $800 odd bucks but due to financial reasons, not working at the moment, having an EL Fairmont Ghia V8 turbo which has had nearly $80K spent on it as many of you know the car, I wasn't in a position to save it.

So I don't feel great about wrecking the car, but, I have the interior in mine now along with some other things and other parts have been sold off. I did have this car up for sale complete before wrecking it, no one came through with money, a couple were interested but I needed to start getting money for it so it is now too late.

For those of you who didn't sledge, stevo, wayne, shaun, johnny etc, thanks, for those of you having a crack, maybe a little more respect in the Ford community :good:
