How do you fix a stripped thread?

I have one fully and one partially stripped thread in my engines head, they are for the exhaust manifold. From what I have found doing some searches and so forth my best option for fixing them would be a helicoil. Helicoil kits aren't terribly expensive but as it's only a couple of threads that I need to fix maybe I might be better just to get someone to come out and fix them for me. That way it will be done properly too.

The manifold is off the car at the moment so I would need to have it fixed at my house. Or has someone got a helicoil kit, knows how to use it and is willing to help me out?

I can't even find a business in the yellowpages that does this sort of thing, maybe I'm crap at finding them though.

Pretty easy to helicoil it yourself, the kits in my experience aren't that cheap tho. It might actually be worth getting a thread doctor to come out and do it.

Then again if you get the kit at least you'll be prepared if it happens again.

maybe Rollin, snortingboost or lukey039 might be able to point you in the direction of someone who can fix it.

Yeah my thoughts exactly, I just need to find someone to do it. I'm hoping some of the locals on here might know.

Rattle gun? I always fk one of them when ever I pull a manifold off. Biggest PIA's. I use a rattle gun to get it in as far as I can and then a 75cm breaker bar (I call it Mr. Torque) to get it in the rest of the way.

Then I hope to god none of the gaskets in the manifold let go again.

Hmm i have the helicoil in the sump come out with the bolt when i was changing the oil now that was a PIA coz of the size of the hole try finding Tap and a bolt big enough. Its easy enough to re tap the hole but you need to make sure the bolt you are taping the head for will fit through the hole in the manifold you may need to drill the hole out for it to fit.

Personally i would drill the fker out and re-tap it bigger and drill the manifold to suit.
